This Week In Hockey East, Volume II: Now Even Hockey East-ier!

Re: This Week In Hockey East, Volume II: Now Even Hockey East-ier!

I love the H2H GD idea. Hockey needs more aggregate score situations IMO.

...
Goal differential overall (GF / (GF+GA))
Least GA overall (3-2 is better than 6-4, both are equal in the Goal Differential equation)
...
Those are bad tiebreakers. If Team A wins a game 8-4, and Team B wins 2-1 in OT, the first evaluation rates the two as equal and the second favors the OT win. In reality, Team B came much closer to losing.

Agreed. Goal ratio over the course of a season is a better predictor but straight differential probably works better for something like a tiebreaker, particularly over smaller samples.

The hell with coin tosses etc. The coaches break the tie by going through one or more of those intermission entertainment things. Ya know, tricycle race, or pulling another coach on a saucer to the far end an back, or shooting a puck through the little slot in a sheet of plywood.

One of the tiebreakers you could add to avoid this is to add Regulation Wins as a tie breaker like in the NHL.

My list was done in 1 minute, just to illustrate that you can have more than 3 simple tie breakers to break a tie, and you can it make such that a coin flip is a rarity. In general like to see the tie breaker solved HtH first, and failing that, via league overall stats. Goal Delta and/or Differentials should be used in the HtH scenarios. That would resolve all ties except if each team in the tie scored the same amount of goals in the games between them.

BC leads BU in nearly every Hockey East conference category.

I'm going with the ol' whoopie pie toss between Katie King Crowley and Brian Durocher for the tie breaker. My money is on Kinger. :D
