My point was to decide it at the end of the season, not early on. Easy to schedule accordingly. As far as the coin flip itself. Commented in a previous post that you would hope that they can come up with a much deeper tie-breaker criteria, before resorting to a coin flip.

Goal differential overall (GF / (GF+GA))
Least GA overall (3-2 is better than 6-4, both are equal in the Goal Differential equation)

Coin Flip
This way if the match-up is late in the season, the GF-GA on the HtH comes into play, in case it is headed for a tie in points. Could lead to interesting coaching tactics as well. More excitement all around down the stretch.
