Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

I don't even think he's been tested really. He's had a couple of nice saves but the US hasn't really done much or had any sustained pressure. We're making him look pretty good right now.

I heard that, during the game Visentin managed to start and finish a collegiate anatomy course in between USA Scoring opportunities. He took a break to absorb the info and the US accidentally scored.

I have said this for many years, you cannot explain or teach to a kid from Texas, Florida, or California about the Canadian heart and passion. Being from the Northeast we "get it", these kids never will.

Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

We look like girls against men. No physical play at all. A WCHA coach would have been good.

That whole business like approach really went over well.

The team never showed any emotion or even looked like they cared the whole game save Campbell. Absolutely embarrasing effort.

Nelson is the biggest guy on the ice and he's the softer than a fresh loaf of bread.

No fire and passion from coach or captain.

Sorry guys, this one is over. Thanks for hosting. We'll take that trophy back now ...

And hopefully the guys wearing the skates will take that overconfident attitude into the game in two days and promptly hand the trophy over to the Russians.

And having expressed my sour grapes, I have to say that was one world-class butt whuppin'. Didn't see the first 10 minutes or so, but the final 50 sure looked like it was played 5-3.

First 10 minutes were the exact same.

Kreider pretty much said the same thing right there.

You can say that sure, but your inability to give the USA any kind of advantage on home ice is embarrassing. If the game was played in St. Paul, there would be no shortage of USA fans.

Hopefully St. Paul is the next US host in 2016 or 2017 or so.

Couldn't agree more. Ever notice how rarely the team that approaches the game or series with the "business like approach" actually WINS the game or series? Last time I checked, those of us in business or with other "regular" jobs aren't allowed to check someone into the next county when we are negotiating a deal or working with a sub contractor or dealing with an irate customer. If you don't approach a hockey game with passion and barely controlled fire and abandon, you won't beat an inferior team, let alone one that can match or exceed you line for line.

Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

Canada, along with Sweden and Russia, were forged in the "group of death" pool. Every game was intense and every inch of the ice contested. It is little wonder that these three teams look to be the class of the tournament. The U.S. had a relative cake walk in their pool play and were in no way, shape or form prepared for the intense storm that was Team Canada.

The U.S. better turn up the intensity level by several notches if they want to win a medal on home soil and save some face.

Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

What a joke. That game wasn't even fun to watch because it was so uncompetitive.

A couple of harsh thoughts:
- I mentioned this earlier, but the USA defense was absolutely horrible and showcased just how good Cam Fowler was last year. No break out, giving up the blue line all night (and they did this against lesser competition during the round robin phase), no speed (and if you don't have speed, you better have good positioning which this defensive unit did not). Justin Faulk was particularly bad. I haven't seen much of him, but he has no future in the NHL if he doesn't get stronger and faster. Man did he get exposed all night tonight.
- Not sure how Ryan Bourque made this team. Thought he was ineffective all tournament and while he is supposed to be a pest, he had very little compete level all night as he was pushed off the puck all night.
- Hey Jerry D'Amigo....If you want to play in the NHL, you better learn to stay on your skates and not spend 3/4 of your time on your knees and stomach. For a guy who is supposedly getting seasoned in the AHL this year, I'm wondering if he should have stayed in Troy? Talk about regression from last year to this year. Sheesh!
- The most effective line all tourney was the Kreider, Palmieri, Coyle line which was completely invisible tonight. Part of the issue was that the defense was so ineffective at both getting the puck out of the zone (the forwards had to play deep to do the job of the D) and putting the puck on the tape of the foreards so they could attack with speed.
- This game should have been 8-1. Campbell is the only player that deserves a hot shower after this game. He was excellent even though the D left him out to dry time and time again.

All in all, not completely surprised with this result at all. I don't think the USA looked that great all tourney (with the exception of Campbell and the line above).

At 6-3, 195 (and that's pushing it) how is Nelson the biggest guy on the team?
Forbort is 6-5, Bjugstad is 6-4, Dumoulin I heard is 6-4. Sorry, have to stick up for one of my boys here.

My other thoughts: there was zero compete level. We let Canada do whatever the hell they wanted. It made me sick to my stomach.

I think every sees why Jerry D'Amigo barely made this team. They went with experience, when perhaps they should have gone with some other intangible.

I felt bad for Jack Campbell...at least he showed up to play.

I don't feel very positive about our chances to beat Sweden for the bronze either.

Great comments. I think Brock Nelson is the softest big man I've ever seen in my life.

Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

Correction. "One of" the biggest guys on the ice.

D'Amigo was a hero last year, but this year he was god awful. It's tough to cut someone that was such a key cog of last year's team.
