The States: North Dakota is Still the Worst

Re: The States: North Dakota is Still the Worst

I thought they might have taken stuff out of context or exaggerated. Paul (my coworker) was the son of a mayor/police chief in one of the Boone County towns and according to him they could have been portrayed in a far worse light. They seemed to be a sort of doomed, ignorant clan in the doc, but they're really kinda like Westboro Baptist -- they're a crime family and they've been involved in a lot of very unfunny violence (rape, assault, etc).

I honestly think they just don't know any better. I'm sure some of the family knows, and ignores it, but some...well...they just aren't educated enough to understand that their way of life is pretty effed up.

Jfc. Just come out and say you can’t win without ensuring no one votes

Re: The States: North Dakota is Still the Worst

Michigan's GOP Senate debating a bill that would allow drivers to opt out of being required to pay for lifetime health benefits in case of a crash, joining the 49 other states.

What a great use of legislative time.

So, my parents live in Texas. My mother has been driving my blind father to the polls for probably 50 years (only the last decade in TX). Should she not be allowed to drive her disabled husband to vote?

Re: The States: North Dakota is Still the Worst

It feels like one party always trying to make it more difficult for people to vote should tell me something.

Wait, explain this. Because I feel like there's something missing.

Re: The States: North Dakota is Still the Worst

When you get car insurance in Michigan, you have to get lifetime catastrophic health coverage that is covered by insurance for a half million and the rest by the MCCA That tacks on $160-200 per car every year.

Why is that a bad idea? Making sure people have appropriate coverage seems wise to ensure victims are properly taken care of.

Am I missing something stupidly obvious?

It's lifetime unlimited coverage. No one else does that.

That republicans have terrible platforms and horrible ideas and our electoral map gives them power?

Maybe they should though. If some drunk who is underinsured hits me, I’d like to make sure my medical expenses related to that crash are taken care of for life.

Again, I’m sure I’m misusing something obvious because this sounds like it just prevents the need to buy “underinsured driver” coverage. And removes the cap on that which is usually around $500k.

Maybe this is for super serious accidents, but in my experience in Minnesota, perhaps because we are no fault- your car insurance just tries to kick you off and use your medical insurance as fast as possible. I’ve had nothing but awful experiences after being hit by morons and having some injuries

Probably, which is why this Michigan adder kicks in after $500k. Wouldn’t this help the victim then? I assume the issue here is whether the state should pay for that?

Well, right now the result is an average of insurance costing over double in Michigan than in Ohio ($2,600 to $1,000 per year), and they've jumped the fee from $160 to $220 in three years so everyone is ****ed.

Re: The States: North Dakota is Still the Worst

Michigan No-Fault is stupid and needs to go away. Thank God. Way too many people I knew back home would get a PO Box in a podunk Wisconsin town just across the border just to register their vehicles in Wisconsin. Also cheated the Michigan SOS out of the fees for plates.

It was so prevelant that there was a wait list for a PO box.
