The States: Maybe A National Divorce Is A Good Idea After All

Agreed. OH, PA, and Wisky are just odd choices. You can have a debate about the rest, but those are terrible choices when you have two Dakotas, two new hampshelawares, *gestures generally at the southeast*, Oklahoma (which is basically just oily Nebraska)...

Idaho doesn't fit either. Whitewater rafting, backpacking/hiking, mountain climbing and bouldering and all those type of things, amazing fishing and hunting, skiing and snowboarding and so much more. So many outdoor activities. The person who said it was boring seemed to be complaining about lack of cell signal and connectivity as the reason it is boring. But I'd say most people who visit would argue that is a positive feature. I know I will lost cell signal when I go to the mountains to fish a creek or hike up to a lake and that is totally fine. Say what you will about other aspects of Idaho *cough*politics*cough* but there is so much to do here.

I think I'm 99% sure I'm ok with any amount at home.

im still deeply divided on public usage.

People publicly use it all the time in the form of vapes. You just don’t like the smell of weed versus, say, cigarette smoke? Not judging, just curious.

Shhh. I'm trying to draw out ND.

If you're waiting for anyone from ND to come here and tell you the article is wrong about ND, you may be here awhile.

When I first move to Minnesota, I heard about the "license plate game" families would play while driving on vacation. We didn't have that in ND because there was never a vehicle with a plate from a different state.

If you have your tires in good alignment, you can set your cruise control in Fargo, lean back and take a nap, and wake up in Bismarck two hours later, and that's even without one of those fancy Teslas.

I don't think I have smelled cigarette smoke in years.

The only thing I can compare the stank of Mary Jane to is certain cheap cigars. Stomach churningly awful.

I pass by cigarette smokers all the time. While I’m not a fan of cigarettes and the brands with the worst smelling smoke, especially Winston’s and Camels, don’t hold a candle to the average strain of the stinky icky.

Yeah, I don't like the smell of any of it. Probably why I have never smoked anything. Mary Jane is the most pungent of the bunch.

Who smokes now?

When I was 10 it was everyone. When I was 20 it was the Poors and female high school students. When I was 40 it was rednecks and Asians. Where has it moved to?

Still mostly rednecks around here. But if they aren't smoking, they are chewing which is actually more disgusting. Because they will do it everywhere. You do not want to accidentally throw a document or something in the trash in many areas where I work because, even if you try to dig it back out immediately, it is very possible it will have tobacco spit on it. I HATE it. But better than when they just randomly spit it on the ground somewhere I guess.

I work with a number of people who smoke. They stated as teens and just never quit. The younger coworkers aren’t smoking, it’s all the people a few years older than me and up.

At my dad's company (East Tennessee), they resorted to painting all the corners in the stairwells white to discourage people from spitting there. Disgusting.

Yikes.

I'll say one thing for the Beltway zombies. They may be pearl-clutching racists on Nextdoor, but smoking is social and professional suicide. Nobody does it, it would be the equivalent of showing up in Tiny's outfit from Roadhouse.

Thank god for elitism.

The before and after seals for Whitesboro, NY after being updated (for the better?) in 2017. Yes this is real including the name of the town. Nothing reflects colonial times better than a white man choking out a Native American.

This so reminds me of the South Park city flag episode...even with the same "wait, how is that better?" outcome

The difference between Minneapolis and Toronto was massive. You could smell it every few blocks in Toronto. In Minneapolis you might smell it once per evening.

I'd take cigarette smoke 99/100.

F you, man; I’d rather drive past bowling alleys and grain elevators in Everytown North Dakota than Metro-blur by all that packed-together, fancy shyt in Falls Church, VA anytime. I like my drooling morons in plaid and Carhartt.

Another thing: Who would want to spend time in a place where you have to listen to the puke-inducing sounds of leaf blowers? Give me the music of snowmobiles buzzing past my house and the potato-potato-potato of a Harley repair shop across the alley.

Yet another thing: Take your brick-and-mortar sound barrier walls and give me nothing but blue sky in every direction sitting on a straight clean line.

So there.
