The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Providence lineup is out for tonights game. With Rooney and Adams hurt and Luke just eligible i would imagine it would look a little different in a week or two. Fourth line looks real weak at first glance with Simon and Maloney on the wings and Brown at center. Brown is a defenseman converted to center for at least this game.

Brown scored PC's first goal. 2-0 Friars in the first period.

That stuff that you are hearing at Consider is called crowd noise for the home team. The students are here and LOUD!!!!! Great job by the students and athletics for dressing the house!

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

I thought the F_ _ K BU chant throughout the game was out of line.

I agree but there is always knuckleheads out there...Hopefully some of the good kids come back on Saturday night..

PC looked real good on offense!

Yes.

as was PC putting BU on the power play eight bazillion times. But hey, I'll take it. I don't care if the students throw their own feces as long as we win...

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

BIGGEST Difference: A NEW Coach...just one game but good job...they'll (PC) will be a scrappy bunch. Good Luck.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Yes great win tonight. Best of success during season, except when playing my Black Bears! :)

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

ohhhmygodddddd what a game. That was insane! the student section was the biggest I've ever seen it, ever...and apart from the f#$() BU chant i thought it was awesome. I'm still shaking...I can't believe that just happened. So excited to be a member of Friar Nation this year. Should be a great year.

GO FRIARS!

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Perhaps the F BU chant was off base but BU usually comes into our barn and rips us up all the time. They also tried that a bit tonight after they got a few goals. The students shut them up which is good - just need to find some different words.

Best chant I ever heard was BC against Maine in HE tourney at BC some many years ago. Can't really quote it in polite company.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Great win! I Just found my rose-colored glasses :) They had been lost for a few years.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Nice to see them win and to see a good crowd there. A crowd that was into it. The students sem to be having a great time. Do they still blast the music after every stoppage of play or have they toned it down?

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Forgetting the moronic "F BU" chant (c'mon. SuckstoBU isn't brilliant either, but at least it's kind of appropriate) and their inability to stay an entire game, last night was almost perfect. I hope they keep it up against UMASS.
Did anyone else end up parking behind the library last night?

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

It was a truly fun evening that took me back to the good ol days. Jumping out to an early lead was great and then coming back from the 3 all tie was big. I like the new marque out front and the signs on the building. I think that someone finally realized that marketing/promotion was needed. I think the tie in to late night madness was great. I liked that the music was lower and was turned down several times. I will have to get used to lines in the mens room again though! Keep it going!

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Congratulations to PC on their big win last night. I can see that "our" coach picked up right where he left off.

Thank you for the kind sentiment. I already feel lucky to have Coach Leaman.

I loved the style of play last night and we haven't seen an effort like that in years. This team is going to struggle this year as they are a work in progress but you can't help but LOVE their hustle and I'd be a very happy fan if last night proves to be the rule rather than the exception.

Hats off to the coach, players and students on a GREAT first effort.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Thats the wrong Brown, i was there and it was electric

No, it was the right Brown. ;)
My son and I had the pleasure of meeting Drew Brown's family before the game and my son had adopted him as his automatic favorite player so we were happy for him when he roofed the first goal of the season.

As a fan in exile (formally known as silentschwab - kid with the hard hat from 2002 - 2006) Is there any way
to get games on the radio? Any local station covering it that I can listen to online? I don't want to have to pay to get the games, if at all possible. Wish I could be back in Rhode Island!

David Brown is the converted defenseman that centered the fourth line. DREW Brown was the third line wing that scored the first goal. Once again, wrong Brown.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

There was a time, during my Freshman year as a student, when he-who-must-not-be-named was still coaching, when to get in the student section took work. At one point, we were ranked as high as #7 in the country, this was when we started the season off well with seniors like Wood and the like. Anyway, I would love, as an alum, to see that happen. I want to see students lining up outside Schneider at 5:45 in order to get in when they open the doors at 6. It certainly got me hooked during my young years.

I think the tailgating helped too back then. Woody spent more time siitting on the bench on your side then our side. Some things don't change
