Remember the name Sri Srinivasan, you're going to hear a lot about him in the coming weeks.

The only reason not to nominate him would be if you think he'd also be Hillary or Bernie's top choice, and you don't want to waste his chance now. Otherwise he's a moderate that was confirmed just 2-3 years ago by a 97-0 margin or something like that. He clerked for Sandra Day O'Connor and was a Deputy Solicitor General under both W and Obama before reaching the DC Circuit. Even the GOP will have a hard time spinning why he shouldn't get the job.

That's the #1 priority for one of my coworkers and because of that he will never vote for a republican president. The guy has voted for moderate GOPs for senate but does not want a republican nominating people to the court. Kind of a fiscally moderate socially liberal kind of guy.

I also think it is one of the most important considerations.

While the GOP may not want any BHO nominee to see the light of day...there will be teeth to that decision. It very well could influence moderates come November...and Dem rhetoric should be to see that it does.

If it's too conservative, the Hillary lovers will have a sh*-fit.

Any nomination will be a set-up for (insert party)'s nomination for the next prez. Period.

Plus the Dems know there's a risk of a GOP victory in November. A guaranteed moderate beats out a possible 2nd Alito.

I'll miss Scalia. I agreed with him maybe 25-30% of the time, but the SCOTUS lost its firebrand today.

I don't know his bench history, but a pick like Srinivasan should put the GOP in a spot. Unanimous approval to the Ct. of Appeals and a reputation as a moderate.

Plus, his furriner sounding name should make for a good show from those who have taken an oath to prevent a Jihadi from holding the key to their gun cabinets and bedrooms.

I'm sure Scalia had a great legal mind, but he was extremely partisan and he hastened the day when the Court is perceived as just another partisan institution. His "original intent" seemed to appear and disappear with what his political affiliation dictated. In the long run, he will probably not be remembered for anything other than his rancor, and that's not a sign of a good justice.

I'm sure Scalia had a great legal mind, but he was extremely partisan and he hastened the day when the Court is perceived as just another partisan institution. His "original intent" seemed to appear and disappear with what his political affiliation dictated. In the long run, he will probably not be remembered for anything other than his rancor, and that's not a sign of a good justice.

Won't blast Scalia until the dude is in the ground, but this is an epic disaster for the Republicans. Before this, you always had the notion that the next President could change the court, but not necessarily. Justices have served into their 90's (Stevens) so it was possible the oldest justices (Ginsburg, Breyer, Scalia and Thomas) would have outlast the next President. Not anymore.

So, you either delay the nomination while Obama smartly picks a minority or woman candidate (and spare me the cries of 'politics' knuckledraggers, what do you think the GOP Senate is going now ) and watch your incumbent Senators up for re-election get crushed in the court of public opinion only to hope President Cruz or President Trump gets to nominate their own candidate Not very likely either of those guys win. Then the Dems are going to be out for blood and ram the most liberal person they can find down the GOP's throat. In the meantime, as Dems control most court of appeals, all rulings will stand in a 4-4 SCOTUS decision. That EPA ruling? Fahgettaboudit.

Or, you approve an Obama nominee in the hopes you get a Souter type in there with a touch of corporate leanings. While that may PO the Sanders crowd, perhaps rightly so, hard core Trumpites and Cruz voters bang the drum on GOP Establishment being sell outs. This continues to split the party in two between sane and insane, with insane winning!

I love a win-win situation.
