The New WCHA (2013-14)

Re: The New WCHA (2013-14)

It seems to me that a central location is important for the tournament, but not necessarily for league offices. Detroit or Minneapolis may be as good a choice as anything.
Where are the CCHA offices? Why not move the WCHA headquarters to where ever the CCHA headquarters currently are?

Re: The New WCHA (2013-14)

I fair amount of communication is good, but please don't go to the level of the Sue. I signed up for their email list in the hopes of knowing about their jersey auction at the end of the season and I kid you not, they send out 2-3 emails PER DAY for the hockey program. So and so hurt his knee today... Highlights from their last big win... Interview with the coach... Billy flunked his home-ec exam... They must think their email list is a Twitter or Facebook account. Either that or they have 100 monkeys with keyboards that they need to keep busy. One email a day is boarderline spam level. If MTU ever emailed me that often I would unsubscribe, and I'm a huge fan (and user of the THG weekly digest). :-)

Farmington Hills - upper-middle class Detroit 'burb.
Personally i would much rather have the office in Houghton or Marquette. Being in a member school's community and bringing jobs to that community would be nice. If an international airport and other substantial infrastructure is imperative, I would go with the Twin Cities. No real reason for MSP over Detroit, just Minnesota bias.

Yes it would be, and MSP is a good choice, plus it's near a number of league schools, but the staff would have to be re created. Detroit would most likely be cheaper to operate, be closer to the rest of hockey, and have trained staff right there. I think either way is ok, as long as it's out of Denver.

Re: The New WCHA (2013-14)

There certainly could be truth to it. 10 gives you a "travel partner", four teams you play twice a season, and could split into East/West easily.
WCHA: UAA, BSU, MSU-M, MTU, (western team to be named later)
CCHA: UA_, NMU, LSSU, FSU, BGSU

Taking each of the named and a quick breakdown:
UAH- already D1, facility in place. Does this league want additional travel costs?
Moorehead- made the big $ push this summer. Are they at their goal?
Newcomer Iowa State: who? Where would they play? Funding?
Curveball UW-GB- I wondered if this was possible, and with the potential league in the backyard, it would be easy to just push this forward. Resch Center is capable, but ice time between Gamblers and shows may make it tough. Would love to see happen.

IF these teams all come to fruition, could that mean a resurected CCHA? Would the Atlantic schools who wanted more scholarships then want FSU, BGSU, UAH?

I don't think the resurrected CCHA could happen. The teams that could be added are too far west to want to join the resurrected CCHA, they would want to play the WCHA teams that are closer. I also don't see NMU wanting to go back the CCHA without Michigan and Michigan State, once they have already started in the WCHA again. On that same note, I don't see LSSU wanting to part from NMU, so I think that they would want to stick in the WCHA. Long story short, I don't think enough teams from the WCHA would want to split off into the new CCHA 2.0.

Re: The New WCHA (2013-14)

Pardon the misspelling of names, and I took the um's, uh's, and stutters out.

DG and Moose: [Banter about WCHA play so far this season, DU's the greatest program in college hockey]

DG and Moose: [Banter about DU's shi**y trip to Bemidji a month ago...]

DG: [Raves about Bemidji's high school facility, personal tour by BSU coach Tom Serratore, How BSU is almost in last place]

Moose: I wanna turn it around a little bit here after heaping some praise on what Bemidji State has done; Why did Denver University decide to leave BSU behind and move on to the new conference, the NCHC, as you guys made the decision now about six, seven months ago.

DG: To keep this interview fairly short, our fans have no clue where heck Bemidji is.

Moose: In your opinion, is it a fair assessment that since the WCHA was actively pursing Notre Dame and Miami this past offseason that fans from Bemidji State, Alaska Anchorage, Mankato, Michigan Tech kinda get the feeling that they were kicked out of the league rather than the other way around?

DG: That works for me.

Moose: The reason I bring this up with you is that you seem to be one of the, the spokesman, the conference put out a video which you were featured prominently in right after the creation of the NCHC. A term that came out was "Like Minded Institutions," and I guess the question there is, in your opinion, how do you think those four teams are different from say a St. Cloud State or a Minnesota Duluth which were invited to the NCHC?

DG: The NCHC didn't put out that video. DU did. Get your facts straight.

Moose: [Pause] In your recent trip here to Bemidji you felt that they demonstrated a high commitment to hockey, the new facility is very high class. Does BSU, or what do you think BSU doesn't have that would fit with that "Like Minded" mentality.

DG: If you can't tell the difference between UND/DU's hockey programs and Bemidji/Tech's then you need help.

Moose: Well, unfortunately, I don't get an opportunity to talk to you on a regular basis, so this was my chance. I appreciate you do taking the time to answer my questions. Hopefully we get another chance to talk.

DG: Screw you. This is the last time I ever talk to you.

Moose: DG, Head blogger of the Denver Pioneers, as BSU on the road this weekend. We'll come back, wrap up the program in a moment. Next on the BUN. And online of course and KBUNam.com

Boo-hoo, my coach got pantsed in an interview that maybe a few hundred people heard, and I'm so mad that I'm going to whine about it by trolling the interviewer. *sniffle* *sniffle*

Seriously dg, I used to respect you, but you've become one of the most insufferably arrogant SOBs on these boards.

Let's focus on this one...please tell me the difference between CC, SCSU, WMU, MTU, BSU, especially since Gwozdecky said it wasn't about recent success.

I can't believe I saw the word "respect" and "dg" collide in the same sentence. Well done. Though I'm not surprised that he's a big enough tool that he has to come into threads like this and, well, be himself.

Re: The New WCHA (2013-14)

Considering it came from a well-informed source, I'd have to think there's some legs to this. The one suggestion that surprised me the most was Iowa State. However, considering that ISU is in the Big XII (perhaps more currently known as the Big 12-2-1+1-1, or Bevo's Lapdogs), I'd find it surprising if they entered the college hockey world by joining a conference that is effectively a bunch of castaways.

Personally, I'd like to see UAH become the 10th team in the WCHA, assuming there are some assurances that their program will still exist after a couple of years. If Moorhead and Green Bay make the leap to D-1, then open the doors and make the conference 12 members.
