Re: The New WCHA 2, The Electric Boogaloo (2013-14)

Perhaps the nWCHA should do a bold move and have the season June –August....... that way all the teams won’t have the excuse to trek north in the winter because they are scared of the dark.
Do you need a crying towel? Or two?

I can already tell it's going to take some of the ex-CCHA fans a while to get used to the subtle nuances of Alaska Hockey. He's a mediocre fisherman, but an excellent beer drinker.

In case you've missed it, FOUR New WCHA teams have already been named in the Top 58 programs of the last decade.
http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?100821-The-Top-58-Programs-of-the-Past-Decade

#53 - Bowling Green Falcons (was 49th in 2010)
#51 - Michigan Tech Huskies (was 51st)
#49 - Lake Superior Lakers (was 52nd)
#48 - Alaska Anchorage Seawolves (was 48th)

The rest of the future WCHA teams appearing in the Top 60 list two years ago were:
Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks (was 33rd)
Minnesota State Mavericks (was 29th)
Ferris State Bulldogs (was 26th)
Northern Michigan Wildcats (was 21st)
Bemidji State Beavers (was 16th)

And potential member - Alabama Huntsville Chargers (was #41)

What does this mean? It's summer time, and there ain't any new sh*t to talk about. :D Enjoy the rankings, Priceless does a very good job in breaking down the stats into some pretty useful numbers.

To be fair to Anchorage and Michigan Tech, it's also because they have had very difficult schedules. Both teams have played more than 35% of their games against the top 10 teams. Bowling Green (17%) and Lake State (12%) don't have that excuse. I think UAA and MTU have a chance to improve when they escape the top-heavy league.

Tech fans have had this argument before, and I'm in the camp that our strength of schedule was somewhat inflated because we stunk for 8 of the last 10 years. It was always one of Russell's favorite excuses.

Re: The New WCHA 2, The Electric Boogaloo (2013-14)

Don't kid yourself - losing 30 games in one season is no easy task. Doing it in back to back years... you're talking lottery type odds. I would compare it to an MLB pitcher who loses 20 games. The saying is you have to be really good to lose 20 games in one season because if you were not a really good pitcher you would be off the roster after you lost the first 7 or 8.

It's a chicken vs egg argument.

Re: The New WCHA 2, The Electric Boogaloo (2013-14)

For many of those years Tech had the toughest schedule in the nation simply because they're the only WCHA team that didn't have their SOS dragged down by having to play Tech.

You know, @wchahockey started following me on Twitter. I guess that's the clearest sign that we're about to be the 10th member school. ;)

Hmmm The WCHA account is usually about 5 years behind...it isn't like them to be proactive...
