City Of God

Great movie. Very raw and brutal at times, but everything was well done. Definitely recommend.

I convinced my wife to go to Gamuardiaba of the Gakaxy with me...sadly she regrets her decision. I just don't think she can suspend disbelief when it's so science fiction...sad.

Drunk at 6:30 on a Sunday. That shows initiative!

Should have went to Guardians of the Galaxy then.

And yikes, I got my mom to go, and she enjoyed the hell out of it. Even though she has never cared for anything to do with Marvel.

Confucius

I couldn't get into it. There was nothing wrong with the movie, really, but it just didn't really capture my attention. Disappointed, to say the least. I was looking forward to it.

With Robin Williams in the spotlight and all: Is Patch Adams really that bad of a movie?

I've never seen it, but watched the trailer last night and apart from the stereotypical "commoner goes up against The Man" story arc it seems like it'd be great, but I saw the actual Patch Adams said it was terrible and it's been brought up in three different articles of Williams today about how his choice of movies was incredible to questionable. Each one put Patch Adams on the questionable end.

I don't think its his finest work by any stretch but I remember enjoying it.

I'd also like to add for anyone that missed it in the death thread:

If you have Netflix, go watch Louie, season 3, episode Barney. Louie doesn't have many storylines and this is an independent episode so you won't be spoiling anything. It's Louis CK and Robin Williams in a short little ten minute episode. I think it's one of my favorite Louie episodes, and the ending is all too real now.

Overall it was acceptable but mostly forgettable. Not by any means his best, but it's also not "RV".

Rock Of Ages is on. I'm sorry, but this is such a wonderfully horrible movie.

I'll see your movie and raise you that I saw it performed live on a cruise ship and loved it. The only thing I've seen to rival its pure shlock joy is Roadhouse.

I can agree to that point of debate. It is indeed that horribly wonderful.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Going along the Robin Williams theme, just watched World's Greatest Dad. I don't even know what to think, I feel like it should go in the What The Fark thread. Honestly one of the strangest movies I've ever watched. At least now I know where that "I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up alone" quote comes from.

Dear citizens of Arendell:

You have an ice-based economy. Perhaps having an ice-witch for a Queen isn't so scary after all.

Thunderheart

White man bad, feather Indian good. Find self. Meh. Total meh. Yes, I know it was based on real events, but the writing was not good at all. Val Kilmer mailed in his role, too. Ted Thin Elk was great, as was Graham Greene. Great jobs in their roles.

I couldn't disagree more with your overall opinion on the movie. I think It was powerful, well written and received by those in the know, and imho Kilmer was miles away from mailing it in.

The obvious foreshadowing, Kilmer mailing it in, etc killed it for me. I didn't expect much, and I'm glad I took that stance.

Double feature tonight.

Muppets Most Wanted - Another meh effort by the franchise. They've really forgotten what made the muppets funny. Too bad.

Filth - Whoah. Heavy film. I think I liked it but it really requires some processing and I don't want to give any deets so as not to spoil. I believe the story was written by or the movie was directed by the same guy who had one of those roles for Trainspotting.

James McAvoy was amazing in this film.

EDIT: Author of the novels was the same for Filth and Trainspotting.

The Way Way Back

LOVED it.

I'm a sucker for coming of age stories, but I thought this one did a better job than most. Funny and heart wrenching.
