I really think so too. Minnesota is a terrible place to visit (save for some very specific activities) but top two or three state to live in.

Take a peak at The Boundary Waters as well as the North Shore. Breathtaking. And don't sleep on Agassiz, Chippewa National or Voyageurs National Park. There's also areas along the St. Croix, River Bluffs State Park, and nothing better than a sunset on a northern lake around Alexandria, Brainerd, Grand Rapids...

Eh, don't sell yourselves short. Love my normally annual trip to Duluth each fall and going to the Twin Cities for a Twins/Wild game or a concert or whatever is perfectly cromulent for a long weekend getaway.
I'm not a hunter/fisher/gatherer, so the 10,000 lakes aren't really my thing but I know plenty of people with hunting cabins up there too.
My Minnesota hometown is on your list...and I couldn't agree more about a sunset over the lakes there. I miss the lakes the most. Visiting my mom/stepdad next month and bringing my toddlers with for the first time. Can't wait.

That's fair. Duluth is pretty amazing. We get up there at least four or five times a year. Thr twin cities proper are perfectly cromulent. Lots of good food, theater, music, sports.

North Carolina's gerrymandered state reps overrode Governor Cooper's veto of an abysmal abortion ban.

Vox is mostly garbage but this does an ok job of laying out why this ban is a bit different than others and why it further cements the Southeastern US as a sort of healthcare apartheid region.
NC GQP Christofascists were a bit more subtle with their evil in this bill. 12 weeks instead of 6, so they can bleat about their compromise. But it puts onerous requirements on providers and patients - in-person only consults (to reduce the out of state patients and the poors), as well as requiring non-surgical OB/GYN centers that provide medical abortions to almost all the same requirements that surgical centers do (which is completely indefensible as no surgery is performed). It also puts more zoning-type laws on facilities that will render many existing centers out of code. But don't feat, they've added a pittance - some tiny family medical leave - so they can claim that they're helping!
Every right winger and totally-not-a-right-winger-fake-libertarian I know yelled at me after the Dobbs decision that no one was going to be banning abortion, or at least they'd just "make sure there's no late term abortions" or whatever, and I called every one of them a dishonest liar or an idiot or both, and what do you know? Guess who was right.
Look, I dismissed people like DGF and others for being alarmist when they told us Roe was at risk for being overturned. I thought they were wrong. And tragically, I was wrong and they were right. But the scales should have fallen off all of our eyes by know.

I made a comment the day after the Orange Menace was elected that we were headed for the dark ages. One of the posters on here accused me of being histrionic and theatrical. Nope. I was spot on. Healthcare is completely compromised in a number of States. Education that would allow women to learn how to prevent pregnancy is severely curtailed. Access to care of any sort is really diminishing in the same States and the stats re public health (which were always embarrassing in these cesspools) are now so bad it is truly shocking even if you were cynical to start with.
The spread of endorsed ignorance, censorship, authoritarianism is frightening. This is the stuff we (boomers) read about in the Weekly Reader as children- countries behind the iron curtain, Maoist China suppressing what the masses wanted and claiming it was for the greater good. We were taught to feel sorry for those poor people who were stuck not having free will, control over their lives or bodies, unable to access real information, having censored books, media, etc.
I keep thinking of Heartsease by Peter Dickinson- Dystopian book where the people reject anything modern- medicine, machinery, etc and demonize anything modern even if it causes harm to reject it.
