Re: The "I Can't Believe There's No Abortion Thread" Abortion Thread

Honest to god I’m so sick of hearing men’s opinions on this

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">If a 12 year old is raped by her father and the father takes her to get an abortion, the evidence of the crime will be destroyed and he will go on molesting his victim for years. If however the child is born, his crime will be discovered and she will be rescued from the abuse. <a href="https://t.co/emV8tJifWE">https://t.co/emV8tJifWE</a></p>— Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) <a href="https://twitter.com/MattWalshBlog/status/1128735398157594626?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 15, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

This is why I generally refuse to discuss this topic with anyone in real life, and I actually have quite a few hashtags and words related to it on mute from my Tweeter Machine feed. Too many a55holes and they all stink. I will say though, Walsh probably thinks he's being funny when he puts "Theocratic Fascist" in his bio, but he definitely seems like he really is one.

You want to know how bad the Alabama law is:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-cards="hidden" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Televangelist Pat Robertson says Alabama's abortion law is "extreme" and that Republicans went "too far" <a href="https://t.co/ySH3W9Uycc">https://t.co/ySH3W9Uycc</a></p>— Newsweek (@Newsweek) <a href="https://twitter.com/Newsweek/status/1129139472594100229?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 16, 2019</a></blockquote>
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-cards="hidden" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Tomi Lahren calls Alabama's recently signed bill that effectively bans abortion "too restrictive,” shocking those who assumed she’d toe the party line. <a href="https://t.co/J832kG7rAD">https://t.co/J832kG7rAD</a></p>— Twitter Moments (@TwitterMoments) <a href="https://twitter.com/TwitterMoments/status/1129157458373382145?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 16, 2019</a></blockquote>

Robertson's comment is surprising, Lahren's is not. She's always been pro-choice, IIRC.

Re: The "I Can't Believe There's No Abortion Thread" Abortion Thread

Robertson only says it goes too far because he thinks it’s too extreme for the SC to take up and overturn. He wants roe tossed out.

Let’s stop giving him credit

Exactly, the full quote is him making the strategic argument that you laid out, he doesn't think it'll get Roe tossed.

Re: The "I Can't Believe There's No Abortion Thread" Abortion Thread

Update on Missouri.

Missouri legislature passes bill to ban abortions at 8 weeks of pregnancy; governor is likely to sign the bill into law; includes exceptions for medical emergencies, but not rape and incest.

I assume the cretinous monsters writing these laws are all working together to scattershot the Court and see where the new line is.

Yes. All of these hellholes are bottom of rankings for education and all related things, so makes perfect sense this is how they spend their time

Consensual rape is my favorite rape

I can't see why it wouldn't be?

I wish I could say that I think these pols are just trying to "own the libs" with dumb comments like this, but the fact is they really are that willfully ignorant in almost all cases.

The date rape reference is priceless. Like it's just ok to rape your date because, well, you have needs.

Re: The "I Can't Believe There's No Abortion Thread" Abortion Thread

I think by "consensual rape" they really mean "statutory rape"...

Still a stupid comment...

Re: The "I Can't Believe There's No Abortion Thread" Abortion Thread

Let's assume Roe were to be overturned. Realistically, what do folks suppose the odds are that in our lifetimes, Dred Scott gets relitigated as the right of red states to demand extradition of their citizens who travel to blue states to have abortions? How does states' rights come into play here? Or is this something like with pot where it would have to be explicitly illegal at the federal level and/or defined by the feds that it is criminal common law that abortion is a form of murder?

Re: The "I Can't Believe There's No Abortion Thread" Abortion Thread

I don’t know, but the first time a state demands extradition for an abortion to try that person for murder, it will be one of the more tenuous times since the 1860s. It could be incredibly fractious with a lot of ugly repercussions.

And part of me says “good”. The red states will fail without the blue.

The WaPo had a great opp Ed today about when life begins. Can we insure fetuses now? Do we celebrate conception vs birthday? Are fetuses counted in a census? Do they get their own healthcare? Are miscarriages counted for tax purposes? Can you jail a pregnant woman if you’re forcing a second person to be incarcerated?
