The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

Nick isn't asking a question! He is making funny!

Actually, it was a serious question. I'm curious to know what Maine's media guide reports. I would think some adjustment would be warranted if they are counting results that happened with ineligible players or something to that effect. Or any numbers at all for a season in which they got caught breaking NCAA rules.

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

Were results counted for Maine's seasons in which they were caught cheating? Were they taken out? Perhaps you can put an asterisk on their logo?

FS23 says that Maine made 11 Frozen Fours in his presentation of them at number 9...I count 11 Frozen Fours not including the 1992 title game appearance that has been vacated, so at least 1 "cheating" season did not figure into the rankings...Keep up the good work FS23!

OK then, that settles that. Good post.

Wasn't the 1992 title game played between your LSSU and Wisconsin? Wisconsin's participation was vacated by the NCAA Committee on Infractions.

Michigan State comes in at #8. The Spartans have made an impressive 26 NCAA Appearances along with 11 Frozen Four appearances. MSU won it all in 1966, 1986 and 2007. It wasn't until coach Ron Mason took over the program in 1979 that Michigan State took off. While they had 3 trips to the Frozen Four and an NCAA title before, it was under Mason that Michigan State went to 19 NCAA Tournaments, winning the 1986 tournament, and only missed the NCAA field twice. Since switching to the CCHA, Michigan State has had only 2 losing seasons. The Spartans are a solid #8. If they can manage to continue their success they should be able to hold that spot, and if they can win a few more titles, could see themselves move up in the future. For now, Sparty sits at #8.

#8 Michigan State - 231.4669 Points
#9 Maine - 179.0149 Points
#10 Colorado College - 173.6922 Points

Wisconsin...Maine...same difference.

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

Maybe we should start a new team...Mainconsin. We can combine the points from Maine and Wisconsin. What do you say, FS23? Will that be enough to knock Michigan out of the top spot?

Boston College comes in at #7. The Eagles have been in 29 NCAA Tournaments, along with 22 Frozen Fours (2nd most). The Eagles won the 2nd NCAA Tournament in 1949, and then didn't win it all again until 2001. They've gone on to win titles in 2008 and 2010 since that title. Moreso than any other team on this list, BC has improved its status in the last 13 years. From 1998 to present, the Eagles have been to 9 Frozen Fours, played for the title 7 times, and won 3 championships. If they keep this streak going, there is no doubt the Eagles will continue to move up these rankings. For now, BC sits at #7.

#8 Michigan State - 231.4669 Points
#9 Maine - 179.0149 Points

22/29 Frozen Fours?? ****ing impressive.

Totally agree. Possibly if they win it all this year, they could move into the top 5 at the end of the season.

Denver comes in at #6. The Pioneers have made an impressive 21 NCAA Tournaments, along with 14 Frozen Fours. They've been there often, and when they get there, they win more often than not. Denver has 7 National Championships, tied for the second most. The Pioneers dominated the years from 1958-1973. In that stretch Murray Armstron led the Pios to 5 National Championships, and 8 National Title games. Unfortunately for Denver, the next thirty years saw the Pios only reach the Frozen Four once. George Gwozdecky has the Pioneers back amongst the top though, leading Denver to 9 NCAA Tournaments and back to back titles in 2004-2005. If Denver can continue this, they will have an excellent chance at moving up.

#6 Denver - 333.3811 Points
#7 Boston College - 309.7875 Points
#8 Michigan State - 231.4669 Points
#9 Maine - 179.0149 Points
#10 Colorado College - 173.6922 Points
