Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

UMTC will probably be somewhere in the 4-6 range, as will UW.

I intended to reply with all of this info before, but USCHO went down for a couple minutes at exactly the wrong time. Anyway, numbers for the most successful teams, and I think all will agree that this is the top 7:

titles/ Title Games/ Frozen Four/ Appearances/ Wins/

Minnesota: 5/ 11/ 19/ 32/ 50/
(also 2nd in both all-time win % in all games (Clarkson), and all-time wins in all games (Michigan))

Michigan: 9/ 11/ 23/ 33/ 47/

North Dakota: 7/ 12/ 18/ 25/ 40/
(Also 1st in NCAA tournament win %)

Denver: 7/ 9/ 13/ 20/ 25/

Wisconsin: 6/ 8/ 11/ 23/ 37/

Boston U: 5/ 10/ 21/ 31/ 38/

Boston College: 4/ 10/ 22/ 29/ 41/

Apparently winning 9 DII national championships in 16 years doesn't seem to add any credibility, at least not in this survey.

Shame to see Bemidji at #33.

Also interesting to note how this completely ignores current events and a team's future prospects by placing UNO is at #48 and Ohio State is at #30.

Well DUH. That is how this thing is set up.

It would be better if FS23 used his crystal ball to tell us who would win the next 50 titles and do his rankings that way. Unfortunately he has chosen to only count games that have already been played.

Yeah, we've all been reading the thread, thanks. UAH, UML, and MC all missed out on D-II bumps then, too. This is a D-I ranking. If this included D-II someone would be wondering when Saint Michael's was going to be listed since they won a D-II title.

Do you have any numbers for us on "future prospects" and how to put it into a formula? I think Doc Brown would like a word with you.

RIT has a DII (and a DIII) championship as well so they would have missed out on a bump. I think they and BSU are the only hockey schools that can win all 3 NCAA tournament titles.

This is still the D-I forum, right? I hope didn't take a wrong turn at Albuquerque.

I don't remember who has been doing the list, but I would like to compare this list to the ranking of the past 10 years.

That would be me, and my list will be out in May. I wait until the off-season like a reasonable person. :p

Last year's thread here.

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

I can pretty much guarantee, that anything done before the time of NCAA championships will be not included in this list, even though it does meet the definition of "All Time". also, I would find a way to somehow include providing players to the amateur age Olympic teams that still had college eligibility, because that greatly hurt some teams that lost these players, and helped out the teams that just relied on over-age pro Canadians. not to mention any names.

You are right Dumbarse. Even NC$$ div 2 or 3 don't count. UND is #1 because Canadians count as double points.

BSU also won a bunch of NAIA nat'l titles

I anxiously await your ranking system which will take into account the future, as divined from a Ouija board.

If I tell you who wins for the next 50 years, then what would be the fun in watching :p:D:D

Colgate winds up at #27. The (Red) Raiders have made 4 trips to the NCAA tournament, including their memorable run in 1990, advancing all the way to the National Championship. Colgate has been back to the NCAA Tournament twice since, but were unable to advance to the Frozen Four. Colgate has been relatively average over the last few years, and have not won 20+ games since their '05-'06 campaign. Colgate will need to find the winning touch in the future to maintain or improve upon their position in this list. For now, they sit at #27.

#27 Colgate - 27.7915 Points
#28 Northeastern - 24.5696 Points
#29 Brown - 18.3317 Points

#33 Bemidji State - 11.4454 Points
#34 RIT - 8.1655 Points
#35 Ferris State - 7.8912 Points
#36 UMass Lowell - 7.1081 Points
#37 Niagara - 6.4381 Points
#38 Western Michigan - 5.3974 Points
#39 Princeton - 5.1729 Points
#40 Holy Cross - 4.8647 Points
#41 Alaska-Anchorage - 4.8361 Points
#42 Air Force - 4.1704 Points

Top 5 will probably be (in no particular order) Michigan, NoDak, Minny, Sconnie, and Denver.
Based on the numbers I posted below, I wouldn't be surprised if BU is ahead of both Wisconsin and Denver. BC could slip into the top 5 since they're ahead of both of them in every category except titles.
