Ohio State winds up at #30, and the last team in the "bottom half" of programs of all-time. The Buckeyes did not make an NCAA Appearance in their first 30 years, but when they finally did in 1998, they made the most of it. The Buckeyes advanced to the Frozen Four that year, but were unable to duplicate that feat in each of their last 5 appearances. New coach Mark Osiecki is looking to turn this program back around, but for now, the Buckeyes sit in the bottom half of programs all-time.

Surprised you have Oohi ranked ahead of Vermont considering UVM has 2 FF appearances and a trip to the HE finals a few years ago.

Well, FWIW, I didn't rank the teams. I simply came up with the formula and plugged in the information that it needed. Ohio State does have an extra NCAA appearance, along with a better winning percentage. They also have played more difficult competition throughout their history than Vermont.

I think it will be interesting to see how the calculation comes out. It may be FS23's opinion how the calculation happens, but once the data is input, it appears that there isn't a change.

What I'm interested in seeing is calculation. He's posted that the average score is 82, but we see the score of the middle teams is ~18-19. And the lowest is well below 1. So that means that the top teams have a whole lot of points. I'd be willing to bet that NC's will have the most points, so currently poor Michigan Tech may be above a currently good Maine because 3>1. Or Tech will be waaaay above teams like Miami or Yale, since 3>>>0. but that's speculation. (and would imply that owls... will have to wait a while for State)

Wait until Harvard is higher than Yale... that will be funny. And I'll bet it does.

Actually, almost close for dead Bowling Green will be higher than Miami.

That would make sense in an all-time ranking though, because NC's from 40-50 years ago would carry just as much weight as an NC from last year. As would total victories.

What seems to really make this whole work tough is that FS23 is doing a year by year version of team ranking- so that who you played in 1948 is very significant. It's pretty cool how much effort he's put into this.

I actually would expect Yale to be in the next 2-3 teams listed.

I'd hope that championships from seasons with more teams would be worth more, even in an "all-time" list. That's like saying CHA tournamnet champs are worth as much as WCHA, CCHA, or HE championships.

Yale made the Frozen Four in 1952.

They also have one of the longest histories of any team, having played in 3 centuries. :)

It appears that Johns Hopkins University of Baltimore may have been the first college in the United States to play hockey, having tied the Baltimore Athletic Club at the dedication of the newly built North Avenue Rink in Baltimore on December 26, 1894. The University of Minnesota may have been the second college in the nation to play the game. Although students from Yale and other eastern colleges visited Canada during Christmas vacation of 1894, Yale did not play the game until January of 1896 when they met Johns Hopkins. Columbia started hockey competition during the winter on 1896, while Brown and Harvard continued to play ice-polo through the season of 1896-1897.

Prior to meeting the Winnipeg Seven, the newly formed Minnesota team played three games against the Minneapolis Hockey Club, with the collegians winning two and losing one game.

The game against Winnipeg was played at the Athletic Park in downtown Minneapolis, located at Sixth Street and First Avenue North, just north of the famous West Hotel. The park was located on the present site of the renowned Butler Square Building, next to the current Target Center Arena. The park was the home of the professional Minneapolis Millers Baseball Club until they moved to Nicollet Park at Nicollet Avenue and Lake Street on June 19, 1896. Athletic Park was opened in 1891. For those interested in baseball lore, Athletic Park measured 275 feet in left field, and 250 feet in right field. It was a home-run hitter’s delight.

Brown lands at #29. The Bears have 4 NCAA Appearances, including three trips to the Frozen Four, and an appearance in the title game in 1951. Unfortunately for Brown, it has been nearly 20 years since their last NCAA Tournament. They've also struggled just to post a winning season, only producing 6 winning seasons in their last 30+ seasons. Without more success, expect Brown to fall into the bottom half of programs. For now, they are barely holding on, at #29.

This is all a farce! We're going to get to #1 and find out UND has like 1,000,000 points or something! :)

Actually, my guess is that UND is not going to be #1.

Northeastern comes in at #28. The Huskies have made four NCAA Tournament appearances, but only one of those appearances was as successful as their 1982 run to the Frozen Four. The Huskies had their best years in the 80s, winning 2 Conference Tournament titles (1 ECAC, 1 Hockey East), along with the 2 NCAA appearances. The Huskies have their work cut out for them however. They only have 5 20+ win seasons in their history, and only once in the last 10 years. If they don't start having more seasons like '08-'09 they will be falling. For now, they sit at #28.
