Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

I'm guessing they will be. They've been the most consistent historically and have 7 titles.

It all depends on the weighting system. UND will certainly be one of the top teams but if titles are weighted really heavily it could tip the scales in favor of Michigan.

not that it has anything to do with the thread, but i've always thought that the husky wasn't going to clear the boston skyline in that logo. :p

fantastic!!!! Good one rhett :)

True. But, I'm guessing that he weighted them in such a way that UND's consistency will win out in the end. It all depends. There's 3 or 4 teams that could win something like this all depending on how the numbers are calc'ed.

DU has 7 as well so it should be interesting.

True, but Denver had a pretty dry spell in the 80's-90's.

yeah, i think the top can only be one of three teams, the two with 7 and one with 9. bucky with 6, no, as being 3 behind in NC's must knock them out of the top 3

UND has had its own bad years. I'm guessing Michigan will be #1 and DU and UND will duke it out for #2 and #3.

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

I can pretty much guarantee, that anything done before the time of NCAA championships will be not included in this list, even though it does meet the definition of "All Time". also, I would find a way to somehow include providing players to the amateur age Olympic teams that still had college eligibility, because that greatly hurt some teams that lost these players, and helped out the teams that just relied on over-age pro Canadians. not to mention any names.

I am loving this thread and I think it's time to guess the top 3 or 4 teams. I think probably Mich will get it, but DU, UND and I also think Minny will be right up there. If you consider how long the program has been around, Minny has a good chance. I also think Harvard and Cornell are going to be right there as well as BU and BC. It's going to be really fun to see the end results!!

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

honestly higher than i thought we'd be. obvious bonus points for our 4 beanpots

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

At least there are no sour grapes here.
not to mention any names.

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

I'd hope that championships from seasons with more teams would be worth more, even in an "all-time" list. That's like saying CHA tournamnet champs are worth as much as WCHA, CCHA, or HE championships.
You could certainly defend that approach. But you could also defend the attitude that those schools simply won when they had the chance. It all depends on how or if FS23 weighted the titles, and either approach could be defended.

I agree. I'd be surprized to see anyone other than Michigan at #1, as it appears titles and NCAA appearances carry a good amount of weight in FS23's formula.

Can't you just feel the love for UND and DU :D :D :D

I disagree. It was plenty hard to win NCAA championship in the 1950s and 60s -- just ask the players who played. The talent levels were quite concentrated in the existing teams of the era, making the top teams better and harder to beat. With relative parity you see today, there are more teams and players, but with the talent levels more spread out, it enables more teams to have a chance at winning. The net/net is that winning championships is hard in any era, and that's why the teams who won them need to be rewarded for it, as that's the reason we play. Do we discount Stanley Cups from the Original Six era? Of course not. Beating Montreal or Detroit or Toronto back then was a huge achievement for Chicago, New York or Boston due to talent concentration. I'd argue it could be easier to win a Stanley Cup now with 30 teams competiing.

Brown lands at #29. The Bears have 4 NCAA Appearances, including three trips to the Frozen Four, and an appearance in the title game in 1951. Unfortunately for Brown, it has been nearly 20 years since their last NCAA Tournament. They've also struggled just to post a winning season, only producing 6 winning seasons in their last 30+ seasons. Without more success, expect Brown to fall into the bottom half of programs. For now, they are barely holding on, at #29.

#29 Brown - 18.3317 Points
#30 Ohio State - 17.0403 Points
#31 Vermont - 15.8285 Points
#32 St. Cloud State - 12.4129 Points
#33 Bemidji State - 11.4454 Points
#34 RIT - 8.1655 Points
#35 Ferris State - 7.8912 Points
#36 UMass Lowell - 7.1081 Points
#37 Niagara - 6.4381 Points
#38 Western Michigan - 5.3974 Points
#39 Princeton - 5.1729 Points
#40 Holy Cross - 4.8647 Points
#41 Alaska-Anchorage - 4.8361 Points
#42 Air Force - 4.1704 Points
#43 Quinnipiac - 3.8994 Points
#44 Mercyhurst - 3.468 Points
#45 Merrimack - 3.1402 Points
#46 Massachusetts - 3.0035 Points
#47 Alaska - 2.9892 Points
#48 Nebraska Omaha - 2.9092 Points
#49 Minnesota State - 2.3131 points
#50 Alabama Huntsville - 1.9469 Points
#51 Army - 1.3604 points
#52 Union - 0.6174 points

Boston University thanks you for those bonus points.

Agreed it depends on the weighting system. Depending on just how heavily titles are weighed Minnesota could be higher than some think. Titles are obviously their downfall, but thy are in the top 2 in a lot of catagories

UMTC will probably be somewhere in the 4-6 range, as will UW.
