Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

How were they to know that England, Spain and Italy would wet the bed, while Costa Rica and the Netherlands absolutely did not?

You took my comment seriously? I was just joking around...although I do think it sucks...It sucks more for them that CONMEBOL had 4 in A-D, 2 in E-H.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

I also find it to be horrible planning to have the Manaus game on Sunday night while the other group G match was more than a day earlier. It would have made more sense to have USA-Portugal Saturday night with Germany vs Ghana on Sunday afternoon, but whatever.

I realize the schedule was adjusted to due complaints about Manaus weather but it still seems like the seeded team in Group G was given a huge advantage to face a team coming from Manaus on an extra day's rest.

Now the own-goal-shooters are just de-pantsing the Godzillas.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

FIFA Rule 17-2 answers my question if I'm reading it correctly:

Two cautions received during the same match incur an expulsion (indirect red card) and, consequently, automatic suspension from the next match (cf. art. 18 par. 4). The two cautions that incurred the red card are rescinded.

The rescinded yellow cards tells me that the players no longer really has any yellow cards in the match, only the red and would be suspended one match, still sitting on one yellow card to still get suspended when he gets back, depending on if cards have reset when he returns to the next match that he's eligible.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

CONMEBOL: 12-1-3 37/48 (.771)
CONCACAF: 5-3-2 18/30 (.600)
UEFA: 8-5-9 29/66 (.439)
CAF: 3-2-7 11/36 (.306)
AFC: 0-3-7 3/30 (.100)

Great showing by the AFC...

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Suarez likes Italian but the keeper for the Ivory Coast is a vegetarian.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

curious what you guys think of that call...sure looked to me like samaras tripped himself. gutsy call.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Toward the end of the match and leading 3-1, Colombia took off starting keeper David Ospina and replaced him with Farid Mondragon, who turned 43 on Saturday and became the oldest player ever in the World Cup.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

You have to like Costa Rica's chances there.

So far the matchups are: Colombia-Uruguay, Brazil-Chile, Mexico-Netherlands, and Costa Rica-Greece.

Costa Rica-Greece is like March Madness where the 12/13 seeds both win their games. Individually you were rooting for both teams for the underdog element (Ok, maybe not Greece because they're UEFA but still), but the match-up it produced won't be all to exciting to watch. At least I have the CONCACAF rooting interest to draw me to that match.

I don't it will be bad, if Costa Rica can score first that should be a good game once Greece has to start attacking.
