The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

The us open cup is another where the entire marketing staff needs to be fired. I had no idea what it was until a couple years ago. Even now I don't see a **** thing about it. Ever.
It's tough when MLS teams don't remotely take it seriously until the later rounds.

Yeah but I'm also willing to bet you don't like basketball or lacrosse either. He claims to like the game "more than the average US Soccer fan" but he can't be bothered to follow team in his area? Alright, I'm elitist.

I guess I should replace "Soccer fan" with "Sports Fan"... Bad choice of words on my part... I'm a fan of the game, but haven't been compelled to have any ties to the domestic product...

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Croatia need to step up their game. They've had more of the possession but not really created any great chances; Mexico have looked threatening on the counter.

TV has been random for their coverage... I know they are on MY 50 Chicago for some games... It's not every game... And when a game is on TV, I do not see it advertised anywhere... I see the Fire more often on ESPN/NBCSN than I do on local TV... They aren't doing a very good job of marketing themselves, and that was the point of my post...

I'm willing to commit to something... No one seems to be making an effort to convert me to themselves however... The Fire have not compelled me to say "Hrm... I wonder where the Fire stand in the MLS standings?" Hell, I didn't even know they were in the US Open cup against Columbus tomorrow.. I don't know what the US Open Cup is or why I should care for it, but it sounds important... If someone made me care about that, I could easily be converted... The only team that has compelled me to care is the USMNT...
It took me thirty seconds to find the Chicago Fire's schedule with TV listings, I don't how that's an excuse.

I can understand not being compelled by the organization, the Chicago Fire are terribly run these days.

Yeah, it's a pretty poor job done on it by US Soccer.

I don't really understand why these games are happening during the world cup?
Although it would have made sense to try and have them in the evening of non-US game days and promote them, or wait and have them on days when there is no World Cup and promote the hell out of them as a way to get your soccer fix.

Because MLS is on a break and this is when they can fit them in the schedule. It's a bit of a joke, even the Sounders play their games at their training facility until the final.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Roger Goodell has fined the Mexicans for celebrating.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

We'd better be getting some seriously good * for putting Mexico in this World Cup...

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

did i mention somebody called greg lalas had mexico as his dark horse to win the whole thing

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

At least I can stop watching.

I mean, I can't get too annoyed at Croatia; really it's Brazil that didn't take care of business against Mexico.
