Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

I think we're boned. Remember when the US came back vs. Panama and got Mexico to Brazil when they could have laid down? Germany's going to do the same thing. All they need is a draw. They'll score 4 instead.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Two things:

1) Bradley's missed goal
2) The 95th minute.

I'm not as familiar with soccer rules as much as most people on this thread....If Zusi didn't take his time coming out of the game, would the referee have added more injury time? The announcer said 4 minutes, but then as soon as Gonzalez came on the pitch, the announcer then said "5 minutes..." Did that make a difference?

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

So basically, keep it close versus Germany, hope Portugal beats Ghana by one and we're in, yes?

Or just go out and beat Germany.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

The USA is still going through. Portugal/Ghana won't be enough of a blowout to change things. US will be second in the group and have to play Belgium in the round of 16.

Beat or tie Germany, we're through.

Lose, and it comes down to tie breakers presuming the other game doesn't end in a tie. Frankly, we want Portugal to win for goal differential purposes. but Ghana can win one nothing and we're good no matter what as long as we only lose by one. 2-1 and we're still fine as long as we get a goal and only lose by one.

Not really. It's fairly subjective. It would have been five no matter what.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

so now we obviously want a draw in the other game if there is a winner we'd prefer portugal.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

I think the US and Germany give it their all for a half and then shut it down if it's a tie in the second.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

CONMEBOL: 9-1-2 28/36 (.778)
CONCACAF: 4-2-2 14/24 (.583)
UEFA: 5-4-7 19/48 (.396) (5 UEFA v UEFA games)
CAF: 3-2-5 11/30 (.367)
AFC: 0-3-5 3/24 (.125)

Can Africa catch UEFA?

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

bradley was much better tonight but him and the team...just too careless with the ball. we give up possession too easily and go back to howard too much
