Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Oddly enough the headliner tomorrow, at least for me, is between two teams with 0 points.

Yeah, that Japan-Greece game will be a barnburner!:)

Seriously, it will indeed be interesting if either England or Uruguay goes the way of la furia roja.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

brazil should end up winning group A. to me, that should lead to a very entertaining game between chile and holland. chile should be going all out for the win as a draw means they get brazil.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Wow, what a miserable performance from Spain. A couple of guys (Iniesta, Azpilicueta, maybe Ramos) looked ok individually, but a horrid mess overall. I don't get how Del Bosque didn't make more changes after 5-1.

And this just goes to show you: Carles Puyol was the ****ing man.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

World Cup Tonight is a great show. Love the Last Call part with everybody chilling in beach chairs and the Men in Blazers from "the crap part of Copacabana Beach".

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

The world's number one team is competing with Honduras and Cameroon for last place.

They need to beat Australia by 3 just so they don't finish last in the group.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

No surprise, but Altidore has been ruled out for Sunday's game.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Jimjamesak, when do we hear who the ref is for USA vs Portugal? I know the initial rumor was wrong but still wondering who we're looking at.

That show has been a great way to keep up with what has been happening... Great since most days I haven't been able to catch a single match live...

Not sure if this has been posted before, perhaps the single dumbest thing I've ever seen on ESPN. Which is saying a lot. What a laughably ridiculous "debate"

1. It's ESPN Women, so they had to do a troll article to get some clicks.
2. I think the sadder thing is 7% of peple voted no.
3. Where's the cooking section on that site? :p

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

But to actually add to the "debate", if you go by the "poor little Ghana. They care so much more and have so little" argument, then really we should just not root for anything ever. I read that article on Deadspin about conserving power so TVs would stay on during the game, and it put things in prespective, but you could do that about anything.

Nice steak dinner? I shouldn't enjoy it because people in Africa can't.
Play video games? Better not, kids in Nepal don't have access to an Xbox or even electricity in some places.
Heck, even other sports. Should we not root for the US in baseball over the Dominican Republic because they live in poverty?

How many changes were you expecting? I mean, I understand riding the old guard like he did while mixing in a couple changes...I'm just not in touch enough to know what other changes he should have made. It almost gets to a point where you have too many options on the bench if that makes any sense. You still need a core group of guys to build a lineup around. Seems like it was the core guys who let Spain down the most.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

not the strongest group but Colombia looks dangerous even without a Falcao

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Not quite sure now whether I want my bracket to hold up or whether I want to see certain teams move on for emotional reasons....

I did not pick Ivory Coast to advance, yet I'd like to see that happen. I guess based on the current <strike>0 - 1</strike> 1 - 2 score they'll need to beat Greece to move on.

The way our pool is set up, you pick teams to advance, but then can only use teams you picked to advance when you make your picks in the knockout rounds. everyone gets a chance to pick the knockout round games on June 27 (unless all the slots are filled before then...). it was deemed too challenging to have people pick the entire tournament in advance, since so many people were deemed likely to pick the two teams that would advance, but have them in the wrong order.
