Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

people are saying that but didn't the announcers say the flag was up for offsides?

Lord help us if Howard hangs it up before 2018.

Say what you want, but the US is still improving. Still a long way to go (obviously), but our field players will almost certainly be better in '18 than they were this year.

If we'd won this one, it would have been the greatest injustice of the cup so far. Just do not have the poise and presence to dictate the game.

Sure they are getting better, but our back four is still a nightmare for the most part.
Howard keeps us in games we shouldn't be in and IMO without him, 2018 could be really bad.

Rimando has to be in there as a backup i would think.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Well, FWIW, the team got a round of applause after the final whistle at the bar I was watching the game.
Some highlight chants were:
"Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!"
"Bill of Rights! Bill of Rights! Bill of Rights!"
"Do it for Jefferson! Do it for Hamilton! Do it for Roosevelt!"

Vamos Los Ticos now I suppose.

Good God, Wondo will be seeing that one in his nightmares for ages.

What everyone seems to be ignoring is that it wouldn't have counted anyway because the flag was up for offsides.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

The next time the Germans invade Belgium, let them keep it.

right. i'm just saying it doesn't matter because it wouldn't have counted anyway

we have some good pieces but maintaining the ball more and defending are still the top two priorities.

Announcers said shortly thereafter that the flag was up for a goal kick, not offsides, and he was clealrly onside, so it would have been very unfortunate if he scored and the flag was, indeed, for offside, because it would've been a terrible call.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Wandering home thru São Paulo tonight, a little tipsy after a work party I hosted, rocking a vintage US kit, getting all kinds of looks. A thought came to me....

Tomorrow morning, I wake up without a team in the World Cup, but I still wake up American. Works for me.

We've seen horrible offsides calls cost us goals before...
