The Fallacy of HE "Supremacy" - BC, The Seven Dwarfs and The Least of the East

Re: The Fallacy of HE "Supremacy" - BC, The Seven Dwarfs and The Least of the East

I think UConn eventually gets absorbed by the B1G and I would HOPE they would come as a package with Notre Dame.

I hope you're really not that dumb

I wasn't sure if you were trying to bait someone, if so congrats. If not, yikes.

Yup, pretty much what you said.

Yes, I admit, I was just trying to bait. UConn and ND to the Big Ten are about as likey as Saigon U and Mogudishu U. But I seriously hope the next B1G expansion (which is inevitable) brings in another hockey program or two. Sure it's an ok set up for now with each team playing home and away, but 6 will get boring after a while.

Ok well done then.

If you check out the puppy pound, they're convinced Delaney's invite is in the mail so wasn't sure.

Maybe you guys can get Rutgres to add a program, everything they touch seems to turn to gold.

Re: The Fallacy of HE "Supremacy" - BC, The Seven Dwarfs and The Least of the East

So what do we all think about the revised playoffs format for the upcoming season?

My thoughts for an alternate system that might give some added value to regular season results:

* Only the top 10 teams qualify (teams #11 and #12 eliminated - no playoffs)
* #7 and #8 host a single-elimination play-in against #10 and #9
* Final RS weekend would be Friday/Saturday; play-in on Tuesday; QF round Friday/Saturday/Sunday

This allows benefits to #1 and #2, facing an opponent who played an additional midweek game.

The teams between #3-#6 would likely be vying until the end for home ice seeding for the QF round.

Obviously this is not going to happen this year (or likely any time soon), but I do miss the old format where not everyone qualifies, and I'm always in favor of doing things with the postseason that give some added value to RS results. Otherwise, what does the RS really mean then, other than a warped round-robin that generates a RS champion and lots of fodder for PWR?

Agree on not everyone makes the Playoffs, but go with just 8 making the Playoffs.

What? You want to hurt the self-esteem of the bottom feeder players and coaches in this "everyone gets a trophy" age?

Just added BTN to basic cable in New York...so you may be right.

But but but the Empire State Building was in red for them one night.

Are you trying to take the title away from JDUBBS? ;)

Read the post he responded to. Better yet, read the whole discussion. There was nothing overly provincial or arrogant about his comment. His comment was completely relevant to a topic that is actually fairly interesting.

Honestly, no offense when I say this, but you really have to stop being overly sensitive about this stuff.

5mn_Major- One correction on a previous comment though. We did lose Vannelli to the CHL last year, but your point still stands IMO. CHL defections in MN are still few and far between. In addition to the community-based hockey culture in MN (that I whole heartedly agree is a big factor), one often overlooked factor, in my opinion, is the fact that we are in WHL territory. The lack of proximity to WHL cities often becomes a factor as well.

I'm being sensitive? I was joking, but when I read his comment my reaction was, "None of these people care".

que sera, sera.

Frankly I think its quite relevant. The original point was that the St. Sebastian type of dominant program doesn't exist any more. I pointed out it still does. That has significant implications for causes of program decline and whether its addressable.

But please continue...
