The definitive tournament speculation thread

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

What's your methodology on determining what "wins" a comparison?

He is saying that a win is a team winning more parts of the comparison, like 3-1.

He is just speculating as he doesn't have the power to read the committee's minds to figure out the weighting.

I am a new poster that has been reading the board for quite some time, and it's pretty annoying how you always make try to make everyone feel like an idiot with your arrogance.

You've been pretty silent lately, and I have really enjoyed that!

Is it so hard to realize that some people just want to fight for their team.

The same way USCHO's table of comparisons works.

Look, Salem is deader than Elvis. But, instead of being tossed in the first 30 seconds, I'd like them to think about it for about 5 minutes before they write them off.

Not at all, but at times that can lead people astray from attempts to remain objective, especially as it pertains to this process. Not implying that's the case here, but it has been in the past and the two can often times be exclusive.

Edit: I actually don't see too much of a conflict here. One person might be looking at what should be, while the other tries to figure what will be. The first is free to disregard potential illogical elements of the process while the second is forced to take them into account. Nothing is wrong with either approach, it's just two different ways to analyze the same process. As history has shown with this, the conclusions reached via each tact often do not coalesce.

Anyone else notice a tag for this thread is "bangmyheadagainstthewall"? Awesome. :)

Agreed. I just get frustrated when some people dismiss others' views in what seems to be a condescending way. It's just a fan forum after all.

I think in some cases, people get frustrated when they feel like they have to explain things again and again to the same people. There is a reason that one of the tags is bangmyheadagainstthewall :)

Does explain mean it was plain until someone made it complicated  :p

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Looks like the mileage will come into play with Adrian. No question it is 8-3. Hopefully they'll send Adrian to Elmira.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

with adrian up 5-0 in the third period they pretty much have the auto bid sewn up
so who gets the two remaining at large castleton, neumann, salem, etc let the debates begin

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

You will excuse me though if I have a small problem with the #2 team in the East and the #2 team in the West matching up in the Quarter Finals. Kind of a blow to tournament integrity there.

For those who will point out the millage aspect i do know and understand that.

That and probably Adrian is more like a number 5 or 6 seed overall.

wouldn't having the #1 + #2 seed in the west play a first round game and give the #3 seed a bye to the quarters compromise the integrity of the tou ... oh wait too late for that.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

how do we know which criteria the ncaa weighs the heaviest is it wins, ranking, strength of schedule, color of uniforms, team with neatest locker room, wins against teams from cambodia

We will know after we see the selection, maybe. For what its worth, I think Castleton is in (and not the last team in, either).

Agreed. Based on what the committee's have been showing us in the rankings the last few weeks, it looks like:

1st Round
Curry @ Platts
Bowdoin @ Norwich
Neumann @ Castleton

QF's
Hamline @ SNC
Adrian @ Elmira
Neumann/Castleton @ Oswego
Bowdoin/Norwich @ Curry/Platts

Of course, it could turn out to be something very different. I just hope they don't screw SNC with a play-in like they have done in the past.
