Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

There is word that we may not hear an official selection until Monday morning.

The NCAA wants to hold a press conference.

There won't be a press conference just an online release of the bracket at ncaa.com at 9 a.m. EST. This falls into line with how the rest of the sports' tournament brackets are announced. And, to be honest, this is how it should be done so there are no leaks based on who knows what when.

Re: Bracetology by Lerch

One note: as Joe points out here, it appears Castleton is actually 4-3 in RNK. I just ran the schedule myself, and came up with the same thing: 1-1 vs Norwich, 0-1 vs Colby, 0-1 vs Bowdoin, 1-0 vs Williams, 1-0 vs Hamilton, and 1-0 vs Middlebury for a 4-3 record. This puts them behind Plattsburgh in RNK at .571. Hopefully (well, for my sake anyway) (and then only if it comes down to it), somebody more official-like will correct this at committee.

Forgot 1-0 vs Amherst (ranked on 11/22 poll)

There was talk of it at least right?

Or am I hearing things from the wrong sources ;)

I have heard of no such talk. To my knowledge the bracket will be posted online on Monday morning. No phone calls to teams saying in or out. No early leakage on USCHO either. :p

Poll does not count. It's the NCAA rankings.
IIRC, three teams have dropped out. I don't have Amherst as a ranked team this year.
Fitchburg St. (may be back in)
Middlebury
Manhattanville

Well at least in this case I don't have to sit on this board refreshing the page every 10 seconds until my eyeballs fall out! :D

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Just reread a good portion of this thread, and I've realized something... the NCAA selection process makes a lot more sense when you've got a lot of vodka in our system. Just sayin'. (and yes, it's almost 4am here)

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Ok so Plattsburgh won and Norwich won. What does this mean for Castleton? Are they in now? Does Neuman making it to the finals help them or hurt them (winning or RNK more important) ? If Marian beats Adrian will that significantly impact Castleton or Neuman?

Is there a factor here with McShane being on the selection committee and Dominic Dawes a former player at Norwich, factor into the decision making? Im just throwing these questions out there.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

In the west, Hamline and SNC are in. Now it comes down to Adrian vs Marian tomorrow!

Between now and Monday morning you need to read the first 2 posts in this thread.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

With most of the ‘favorites’ (St. Norbert, Hamline, Plattsburgh, Norwich, Elmira) holding-serve tonight, the selection process is still not cut-and-dry. Had any one of these teams dropped tonight, one would have a hard time arguing their exclusion from the tourney. The outcome would [most-likely] have been quite ‘predictable’, and we pretty-much knew who would get the bids.

But now, as Joe pointed-out, there appears to be solid argument for Salem State according to the numbers to take one of the Pool C’s ahead of Castleton and Neumann. Could Salem State be left-out, and become this year’s “selection process abomination”?

Let’s hope not. But then again... hope in one hand and poo in the other, and tell me which one fills-up faster. Sums-up the selection process quite well.

Stay tuned...

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

I've been calculating and come up with this assuming Adrian wins

The Pool B and C selections seem pretty clear

Pool B Elmira
Pool C Oswego
Pool C Castleton
Pool C Neumann

Based on the last set of rankings and the assumption that little will change

Geographically, the byes have to go to SNC, Adrian, Hamline, Oswego, and Elmira

That means that SNC will play Hamline in one quarter, Adrian will Elmira in another.

The Seeds are
W1 SNC
W2 Adrian
W3 Hamline

E1 Oswego
E2 Elmira
E3 Platty
E4 the real NU (Norwich)
E5 Castleton
E6 the fake NU (Neumann)
E7 Nescac winner
E8 Curry

1. Curry goes to Platty
2. Bowdoin/Williams goes to Norwich
3. Neumann goest to Castleton

Winners 1 & 2 meet
Wiiner 3 goes to Oswego

Of course, if Marian wins, it changes things.

Not wanting to be naive, but how does Salem win the comparisons vs. NU the lesser and Castleton 3-1 and not get in? If you want to say that SoS beats WinPct, then Salem beats CSC. If WinPct beats SoS, then Salem beats Neumann. Salem beats both in RvRT

Castleton lost in their league semifinals to an unranked team, a team that Salem beat in the regular season. Salem lost to a (previously) ranked team in their league finals.
