Denton really is an idiot. I don't know how he made it other than dumb luck. His commentary post-verdict has proven to me that he stumbled upon a gap in the market but managed to not get in his own way.

I am going to miss the comments. I thought I read that Denton called the commenters plebeians at one point. If true, it just shows how lucky he was. To not understand the base of your popularity is almost infuriating. In the right hands, that place could have been a license to print cash. Probably the best comments section on the web. You almost wish it was owned by someone who could appreciate it instead of squander it.

The comment section was one of the best places for reading on the internet. I will miss that. Like Kep stated their political writings were good as well.

It'll be interesting to see how Deadspin looks in the future now that they're owned by Univision. Univision isn't ESPN but they've got their hands and money on some valuable properties.
