The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

Fair enough. And that was an "itty bitty" recession by recent standards.

I'll concede Slick Willy was in the right place at the right time and had little to do with the economic bubble, but that doesn't change the circumstances of his tenure in office, nor what his immediate successor did with that surplus when the bubble burst. However, hindsight is 20/20.
Not trying to be political. Just pointing out that for the first 6 years of the decade, the economy sucked. Trust me, as someone who got my first job in '95.

Since I watch Food Network a lot, it'll suck when Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Giada, or Ted Allen go.

However, when Guy Fieri or Rachael Ray die, I will do a small happy dance.

Ryan White was a hard one to take, as was Matthew Shepard. I was really heart-broken when Freddy died. Lennon (thanks Yoko), Layne Staley and Jerry all stung too. Had I been older Marley passing would have hurt. Hate seeing celebs doing themselves in a la Farley, Belushi, Hoffman, Williams and Candy.

Elvis? Oh wait... he's not really dead! (sorry. couldn't help myself)

Jim Morrison comes to mind when I was younger as does Janice Joplin. I was young enough mortality wasn't on my radar screen and yet they were mortal.

Michael Jackson- because he was my age and people my age should be dying yet.

I just can't get excited one way or another about a celebrity kicking the bucket. Unless I've had some sort of relationship with the person who's shuffled off their mortal coil, I don't think I've ever been really upset over a death. Maybe that'll change someday, but so far it's just been a news event to me.

I think I saw her in the Hunchback of Notre Dame 100 times alone. And i loved her with Douglas Fairbanks Jr in Sinbad the Sailor. Got to a ripe old age but from her last interviews seemed to be as feisty as ever. Have to agree with Kepler on this one-as a youngster got me hung up on redheads quickly!!

Oh yes. Alton Brown. That will be a very sad day.

Everything I've heard about Flip is that he was a great guy, a great husband, and a great dad. I'm not a basketball fan, but this is one of the saddest days in Minnesota sports history.

Wow. :(
