Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

I pretty much stopped following wrestling once the AWA was dismantled, but even I've heard of Rowdy Roddy. Pretty sure he was in some movies (albeit terrible ones) and perhaps a music video or two?

The Crusher going to travel to Green Bay Wisconsin with a quarter barrel over his shoulder. Rat a tat tat.

Rest in Peace Mr. Farr. He worked at "Ford's" as they say in the D. Passed away too young.

He owned a bunch of Ford dealerships. At least until Ford yanked them away because he didn't like to pay them the full amount for the cars he sold.

His commercials were pretty good, though.

Historian Robert Conquest, 98

Mr. Conquest’s master work, “The Great Terror,” was the first detailed account of the Stalinist purges from 1937 to 1939. He estimated that under Stalin, 20 million people perished from famines, Soviet labor camps and executions—a toll that eclipsed that of the Holocaust. Writing at the height of the Cold War in 1968, when sources about the Soviet Union were scarce, Mr. Conquest was vilified by leftists who said he exaggerated the number of victims. When the Cold War ended and archives in Moscow were thrown open, his estimates proved high but more accurate than those of his critics.

I still am sort of amazed that Hitler is the "end all" of evil people Stalin was so much worse, although many were indirectly killed (policies of the country and such).

Joe won. Adolph lost. Winners write (though in Joe's case, erase) history.

Oh I know. Tell that to the average person, though. That is part of what fascinates me with Russian history. So much of it was closed off/hidden/rewritten.

It doesn't help that Russia keeps thing under lock and key. Part of the defensive mindset they developed from being attacked and invaded for hundreds of years.

The national "pride" of being best country, etc, too. N Korea could learn some things from Russia, in a matter of speaking. The Russian propaganda over the years is truly amazing.

The pride thing comes from them still existing after all of those defensive battles. Of course the state isn't going to admit that a lot of it is due to "General Winter."
