That wouldn’t really solve anything. They’re taking advantage of a poorly designed system that is, among many other things, horrible at actually punishing the people who take advantage of it.

If Trump invades Greenland, the Europeans won't fight back, Republicans will defend it, Democrats will issue statements, there will be protests, and most Americans will disapprove of it enough to earn Democrats a bit more of the vote in November. Then on to the next thing.

No one in Greenland wants us there so it would be a hostile takeover. They will cave, unlike Ukraine. The US will forever be a pariah on the World Stage after it happens.

The analogy of Valley People/Mountain Kingdom = US/Denmark is uncanny. Starting a war to get something that is already freely offered by a friend.
 
The EU might finally be getting its shit together.

Top officials from the EU and the South American bloc Mercosur signed a free trade agreement on Saturday in Paraguay, paving the way for the European Union's largest ever trade accord after 25 years ‍of negotiations.

The agreement, designed to lower tariffs and boost trade between the two regions, must now gain the consent of the European Parliament and be ratified by legislatures of Mercosur members Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

This would create a Free Trade Zone between the EU and those 4 nations. I first learned about these negotiations about the time I joined USCHO. Every year since then it has been predicted that it would all fall apart. It didn't. There are still lots of bad feelings, particularly among the French, and every Great Power has been trying to sabotage it, but hopefully it will get across the line.

The EU is certainly in a position to take over the leadership of the West as the US commits the most public auto-erotic asphyxiation in geopolitical history. It's good to see the old bitch finally shaking out the cobwebs.
