The Countries: Forget it, Burkina Faso, Michigan is still the worst.

126 degrees Fahrenheit today in New Delhi

spicy

It was apparently set in Mungeshpur which is in Dehli but not New Dehli. Even more confusing, Mungeshpur is listed as a neighborhood politically a part of New Dehli, but not geographically within New Dehli.

Got that? I don't either.

So it's a suburb that's part of the New Dehli metro area but is technically it's own governmental entity.

India’s elections not turning out as Modi had hoped. Looks like they’re rejecting his fascism for now - likely can’t form a 272 majority for his shithole party

Really? That would be amazing. I assumed India was going down the Russia - Hungary - Slovakia hole. But Poland pulled out of its death spiral, so here's hoping.

edit: Yep, BJP is 63 seats off their high, and down 40 in this election. Of course, for all I know those went to even more psycho authoritarians and Hindu fanatics.

It's infuriating, honestly. Magyars are always a little odd or a little drunk (I joke that my HU great-great gf probably explains a fair amount about me :p). As Poland goes though, frankly so ought to all of the West Slavs vs. Russia. I figure the current fashie trend is probably religious, rural old farts who loved Soviet social conservatism and heavy-handedness.

Polish society has that same Catholic Fasc disease as Irish society, but of course in each there is also a spectacular reaction against it.

Like any myth, Catholicism can be a brilliant heuristic when you remember it's only a model. If you mistake it for fact, it's just a dull, coercive prison.

Rut roh. Things are not looking great in European elections. Germany and France's far right (including Le Pen's party) won majorities. Macron dissolved the National Assembly and called for elections.

Yikes.

edit: Jesus, Ukraine is so f**cked.

I’m not even a little bit surprised

It was expected. Racism, anti-immigration, and all the usual tub-thumping against a central authority (Brussels, Washington DC, same same). Local farmers and industry want protectionist tariffs. The EU is going through its Articles of Confederation stage.

It looks like the pro-EU parties retained their majority, so it wasn't actually as bad as was feared. Everybody knew the far right would shoot up and the center-left was eroding, but the center-right held in most places, and the greens lost enough to larger left parties that they didn't completely implode.

I used to wonder how Tehran went from "western culture lite" to "religious fascist" with little more than a whimper... but I didnt want to watch it happen to Europe and the Americas in person.

Not sure why, but it makes me giggle that these laborers are going to need a passport just to continue doing their job.

What makes me giggle is thinking about all the years wasted, money blown, and politics Matty Moroun (owner of the Ambassador Bridge and former owner of the Michigan Central Station) played, trying maintain a monopoly on truck traffic crossings between Detroit and Windsor. And in the end he still lost. :D The Howe bridge will be completed next year, and he had to sell MCS to Ford, who finally restored it after years of petty, spiteful, and extortionary neglect on Moroun's part.

I will admit that it's been pretty cool running up & down the Detroit River for Bass Tournaments while that has been going on and seeing the construction evolve between June and September each year. Looking forward to seeing how things change now that the span in completed.
