Re: The "Complain About Fox Sports 1" Thread

What is Fox Sports 1 and why would I watch it?

Re: The "Complain About Fox Sports 1" Thread

I guess my disappointment in this is that it's just more of the same. Much of what I don't like about ESPN seems to be parroted here although I get that it's their first week and they'll tweak it as they go.

From the sports casters trying to interject their (lacking imo) personality into the highlights to the panel of B-list former athletes giving us their "takes" on the day's events. Are they also allowing people to vote on the play of the day? Oh, interaction is so much FUN!!! As another said, I don't like their screen setup either - seems hard to digest.

BAH! YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!!!:mad:

Just thought they'd take it in a different direction than ESPN. Instead, they seem to be modeling it after a combination of SportsCenter and their (craptastic) NFL pregame show.

They just seem to be trying too hard to be hip.

Doesn't really matter for me as I haven't been a regular viewer of SportsCenter for probably 16 years now and it's not like I've been just dying for an alternative so I could get back into it.

Fox Sports bought Speed Network. It's their attempt at an answer to ESPN. FSN must have been seen as being too regional for it to be considered a national contender against the Espy Follies.

Do they have any live sports? Or just the studio stuff that Gurtholfin was mentioning?

They do UFC, but also have the rights to Big 12 and Pac 12 sports so you'll get a lot of those games. They have some racing stuff and I'd imagine some pro baseball and football will be aired live as well.

Racing (all kinds, not just NASCAR), football (both kinds) and UFC are their primary staples so far. They will be airing lots of college football and they have a tie-in with the Fox Soccer Channel (their daily soccer show debuts today) and I imagine they will air some Champions League games that in the past were aired on FX or FSC. DirecTV always carries every game, so it is possible for Fox Sports One and Two to carry games and still have others air on FSC and FX.

Their nightly highlight show still has a lot of kinks to work out (the timing appears about 2 seconds off between commentators and on-screen highlights) but I didn't really expect them to hit the ground running. Go back and look at the ESPN blooper reel from their first years on the air.

I have to say, between these two new Fox Sports networks and the expanded coverage of the BPL on NBCSN, it feels like we've taken a giant leap forward in sports coverage in just a few days time. We'll see if FS1/2 live up to their potential. I'd say coverage of the BPL on NBCSN already has.

I think FSC went or goes off the air soon and will be replaced by FXX (sort of like FX2). So games will get filtered to FS1 and 2.

I was curious about the FXX commercials I'd been seeing for a while now. I think it starts to air sometime during the first week in September. Knowing my cable provider, I won't get it.

Technically, Fox bought SpeedVision in 2001, and changed the name to Speed. Dropped a lot of smaller time racing coverage, and dramatically upped the NASCAR coverage. They then decided to change it to FS1, which changed from Speed this past weekend.

SpeedVision had been around since 1995, showing car, boating, and air stuff, lots of old car movies, more club racing, small time stuff like that. We didn't get it until later. They also took F1 racing from ESPN at one point, which is now on NBCSP.

They've owned SPEED for a long time. It used to be SpeedVision before the buyout.

And yes, they wanted to compete with ESPN and NBC and didn't have a mothership to carry programming, just their scattered assortment of RSN's.

Not sure about the East Coast, but FS1 means there is now a Fox Sports station in markets that had none (Chicago, Pacific Northwest).

There was talk early in the announcement of FS1 that they would try to simulcast some MLB and NHL games on FS1 or FS2 to try and take thunder away from ESPN and NBCSN. Not sure if they were able to secure the rights since there hasn't been any talk of it lately.

Re: The "Complain About Fox Sports 1" Thread

I hope at some point the hosts of their Sportscenter show will get some nachos. Then USCHO will have fulfilled it's destiny. Or in mookie's case, density.

Sounds like not much, then.

Yeah FSC is going away, I've already seen ads for games on FS1 that normally would be on FSC (CONCACAF Champions League).

I watched Fox Sports Live this morning, waaaaaaay better than the live SportsCenter at that time. I want to watch highlights of things I missed, not idiots blathering about NFL injury x or who's the best pick for my fantasy football team.

What is FS2? I thought that was scrapped.... Fox Soccer is becoming FXX (FX Extra or whatever) right? What channel was FS2 before the change?

It may be around, but my cable system isn't picking it up...

Fuel TV

FS2 (Fox Sports 2) is on channel 618 on DirecTV. Sounds like you have cable though. It is surprising more outlets aren't picking it up as I think the asking price per subscriber is much, much lower than FS1.

Re: The "Complain About Fox Sports 1" Thread

I think eventually, all the sports channels will have just about exclusive (maybe in name only, not contractual) sports they highlight. ESPN will have baseball, basketball, and football, while NBCSN will have hockey and soccer, and FS1 will have soccer and MMA and racing.

ESPN has been down this road before actually... Right after NASCAR signed their contract with FOX and NBC in the early 2000s, ESPN was told that they could only show video highlights on Sportscenter... For shows like RPM2Night/RPM2Day, PTI, etc., they could only show photos... With these media contracts getting bigger and more important, I can see highlight packages becoming very exclusive...
