Re: The "Complain About Fox Sports 1" Thread

I think eventually, all the sports channels will have just about exclusive (maybe in name only, not contractual) sports they highlight. ESPN will have baseball, basketball, and football, while NBCSN will have hockey and soccer, and FS1 will have soccer and MMA and racing.

I kind of agree, except that FS1 is more NASCAR than racing. They Speed never did Indy, and recently dropped F1, although, they will keep the new Sports Car Series here in the US next year since it's owned by NASCAR. The separation of racing has been a very long battle- open vs closed vs real cars vs "stock cars".

The reason I bring this up, worldwide- motorsports and soccer are the leaders in sport. Just not here in the US. Not quite, at least. So while the claim is FS1 vs ESPN, it's a big three way fight since NBCSP is against FS1 in soccer and racing. Big $$ for them all.

Ouch. The debut show of "The Crowd Goes Wild" hosted by Regis Philbin got a .1 rating. That's gotta hurt.

Re: The "Complain About Fox Sports 1" Thread

On the former Speed channel, up against etablished programming?

They're lucky that many people left their TV on or had pets accidentally bump the remote to their channel.

I don't think Speeds programming was doing better.

Speaking of ratings, I forget where I read it, but a network exec was quoted as saying that if one of the Big 4 aired "The Walking Dead," it would have been canceled halfway through the first seaon due to "low ratings."

Just like MMA is fighting. ;)

Yes...it is...and NASCAR is racing.

Just because you don't care for NASCAR doesn't mean it isn't racing. I have no interest, and don't particuarly like the KHL, but they're still playing hockey over there.

I switched to FS1 from the local morning news this morning, to check it out. First thing I see is some interviewing that LeBran clown. No thank you. Watched for about 3 seconds, and I had seen enough. Same old, same old. Disappointing.

For those who don't know Onrait and O'Toole. Here's best of from TSN.

Seeing this makes me want to watch their show.

They would be better off catering to niche sports than trying to go head-to-head against channels that have established themselves as NFL/NBA outlets.

Agree, hell, if anything, they should make an effort to be kind of like the fabled "The Ocho".

I already forgot that they exist...

Re: The "Complain About Fox Sports 1" Thread

Ratings from 11-12 last night

SportsCenter 0.6
Olbermann 0.4
Fox Sports Live 0.0

The answer is clearly every Sportsclips is a Nielson family and every store left their TV's on.

Pretty sure ESPN is the only channel those places get.

These aren't Nielsen ratings. These are overnight ratings. We're all "Nielsen Families" now thanks to having a cable box or a satellite receiver in our homes. They can even tell if you record a show and watch it later.

ETA. The top show in the eastern time zone on Directv right now is Sports Center. Spongebob is #2. The top movie is King Kong. Three of the top four sports programs on right now are on ESPN networks. Fox Football Daily just this moment jumped into the top 5. I'm going to guess the MLB network just went to commercial.

Interesting. I figured there were ways for the boxes to report home what's on, but hadn't heard that the companies were actually taking advantage of it.

I would still bet that BWW, Sportsclips, Tilted Kilt, and other such places that leave ESPN on (with no volume) skew the ratings.

Re: The "Complain About Fox Sports 1" Thread

If I'm FS1, I'll go up to these sports bars and Sports Clips and do some sort of deal where I'd get the advertising in exchange for getting them on one of the monitors.

That or its up to all of us individually, to go up to the manager at those places and get em to at least while we're there to change one of the TV's over to FS1. Odds are they're lazy and they'll leave it there for a week. Enough people get em to do that, then they just might leave them in the mix.

The Old Chicago I go to on NFL Sundays will only show NFL. Usually let the Sunday NFL Regulars decide what's on (minus the obvious home game). And usually, they ask the regulars if the staff can change a channel.
