The College Hockey Championship Belt Part IV

Re: The College Hockey Championship Belt Part IV

So how do you decide who starts with the Ohio Belt?

Re: The College Hockey Championship Belt Part IV

Yeah, but a lot of those records are incomplete. Especially for former D-1 teams.

Re: The College Hockey Championship Belt Part IV

Just start with Bowling Green's National Championship.

Re: The College Hockey Championship Belt Part IV

Winning the NCAA doesn't necessarily mean they had the belt at that time.

Agree with that. By then there'd be a fair amount of history between them and Ohio State and Miami would have been D1 for several years with all of them playing regularly in the CCHA.

Re: The College Hockey Championship Belt Part IV

I might give it a whack depending on how my week pans out. Here's some references that I've found.

Toledo
Ohio State
Ohio U.
Bowling Green

Miami doesn't appear on the scene until the late 70s. Toledo's a head-scratcher though. They claim a bunch of championships of the MCHA, of which Ohio State, OU and Bowling Green were members, but none of their record books have any games against Toledo.

Working backwards though, it appears that Bowling Green currently holds it. With only 3 D1 programs in the state for decades, Miami swept both Ohio State and BG in 15-16, so they certainly would have held it going into the next year. They would have lost it to BG on October 29th, 2016. Bowling Green didn't play Ohio State afterwards, and Miami took the belt back the following year on Friday, Nov 24, 2017 and then lost it the following night. So Bowling Green will defend the belt against Ohio State on October 26th. Miami doesn't play either, so barring meeting up with Bowling Green or Ohio State in the NCAA, they have no chance to take the belt back for the foreseeable future.

Toledo has never had a team above "Club" level. Bowling Green's club team has played them, but not the varsity team.

Who's Sr. Cloud? They take their three vows or something?

Ralph, it looks to me like Mercyhurst still holds the D-II belt. RMU is a D1 school so the loss on 12/16 wouldn't have affected the D-II belt. Mercyhurst lost to RMU the next night, then to Air Force (also a D1 school) on 1/6/18. They tied AIC on 1/20 but it appears there was no shootout, and lost to RIT (a D-III school) on 2/12. They lost in the AH semis to RMU again. They lost this year to BGSU and Miami (both D-1 schools), then to Ferris State on 10/19. They then beat FSU the next night, and left town with the belt. It appears the next defense will be @ Bentley on 11/30.
