The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

Yea, you would think UAF students would b*tch and moan more about building an on campus facility instead of flushing funds down the crapper building those stupid educational buildings.

Like having the Ocean Studies department of the University of Alaska system in landlocked Fairbanks where a minimum of 400 miles is required to travel to any ocean?

And of course 90 million dollar on-campus museums with special "sound exhibits"?

Yeah can't waste money towards a University in a city where college kids would actually like to live. Or you know, the one with more students than the other two, combined.

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

UAA goes down 9-1 in the 1st to CC, then miraculously rings off 10 straight to win the game, then on Saturday Shyiak has a Water(bottle)gate flashback, except this time he throws a skate on the ice and challenges the referee ala Incredible Hulk style, much to the delight of the 37 Fairbanksans who decided to show up.
.
You can bet your life Butterbean will never bend over and pick up a water bottle and chuck it on the ice. Also if those dedicated 37 fans would have supported the “top of the World Basketball Tournament it would still be around.

That’s why most of the local students go to UA_ something they don’t have at home……. flushing crappers

Best comment in this thread receives two free passes good for admission to any regular season UAA home game from me. I'll judge for myself which is the winner. It is possible that nobody will win the tickets.

Nice! I'd say just give the tickets to mmf, because everyone benefits from the great game photos he posts. A picture is worth a thousand words, right?

{And no, I don't know him.}

Um ... mmf gets more than his fair share of UAA freebies (ask him). So there's that. However, if he makes a worthy post then he's golden.

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

Below are some insights that were shared with CC fans elsewhere, and are passed along for this Fan Forum. If the top line for CC of Stephen Schultz, Tyler Johnson, and Nick Dineen do not fine the net it could be a long flight home.

A bit rare for CC to play UAA and it not be a conference game. After two exhibition games and two regular season tilts we are beginning to develop our own views and opinions on how this CC team may fair as the 2010-11 campaign goes forward.

To date I am pleased with how the three goaltenders have performed for CC. Josh Thorimbert is young (just celebrated his 18th birthday last week) which concerns me, but I also believe he has plenty of talent to play at this level and deserves to get some playing time to gain experience. Speaking of experience, as good as Josh should be how do you get him into the games to get that experience when CC has this schedule in front of it?

Two at Minnesota State
Two with Minnesota
Two with Denver
One with Air Force and one with Yale (Don't forget Yale is loaded this season)
Two with UAA
Two with Mich Tech on the road
Two with St. Cloud State on the road
Two with UNO

And this is just before Christmas!

In my opinion the strength of the team so far this early in the season is the eight CC defensemen. Seven of which have at least one year of experience in the CC system. The only newcomer, Freshman Eamonn McDermott is getting some pretty nice reviews from fans across the board. Heck, I even seen Eamonn already wind up and take a slap shot from the blue line! A possible resemblance to say a.........Tom Preissing?

I really like the forward lines Coach Owens put on the ice last weekend, and hope he sticks with them for awhile. But that top line of Schultz, Johnson, and Dineen have got to start scoring!! In fairness to Nick Dineen, I clearly see that he has really picked up his game from last season. I have no doubt all three are busting their tails and eager to show everyone why they deserve to be the top line. Clearly this team needs those three to score!

The second line is still changing some with Winkler, Civitarise, and Skalbeck seeing some action on it with Hall, and Rapuzzi. Regardless of who plays on this line they are equally important as the first line for this team to succeed. Civitarise is one of this fan's fav's and I was certainly excited to see him score a goal this past weekend. I totally agree that Tim Hall has shown great improvement from last season. With Rapuzzi being from the state of Alaska hopefully he can use the added fire he will have to find the net and score like he did last season against UAA on the road.

It sure is a joy to watch the CC third line of Schwartz, Schwartz, and Hamburg. May the joy continue!

That leaves six fowards to battle it out for that fourth line. Frankly I'm excited about all six players (five Freshmen) and hope they have the patience right now to wait for their turn to show and demonstrate the skills they have. Freshman Jeff Collet is coming off a very good weekend.

Go Tigers!!

Yes, and I'm most grateful. In-laws and out-laws are very gracious hosts. Luncheon, session, and beer room tickets were truly appreciated. That’s why it's always tough to come back and be snarky right away.

Although I'm not sure the luncheon tickets came without a price. Alaska Hockey was as welcoming as ever, but I also had to listen to Mr. Cobb. Painful.

Regarding the on-campus facility. I didn't say it wasn't well deserved. I'm sure the facility will be a welcomed addition to the UAA campus and serve duel athletic and academic purposes. UAA will probably offer a masseuse-ology degree or something just to demonstrate their rich and diverse educational offerings. That career track may be a "tough row to ho" and may not result in a usable degree, but the journey is sure to have a happy ending.

- Please give my tickets to some deserving Seawolve fan. Thanks. :)

(Union and CC fans – tune in later in the week for hockey talk – maybe. CCtig – looking forward to seeing the Tigers/Nooks matchup).

Go Nooks!

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

Welcome to Fairbanks Union and Colorado College, to what should be a great weekend of hockey.

Not sure how tough Union's last opponent was, but sixteen goals on the weekend is a lot against anyone. Union seems to be hard working and brings a scoring touch to Fairbanks. A tough combination.

CC had a couple close games with RPI, winning Friday night 2-1 and tying Saturday 2-2. They're expected to be a mid-pack WCHA team and will be a tough match-up.

The Nooks have a good core of returning players and some good looking freshmen. They have skills but need to play with more grit and not dink around with the puck so much. Greenham needs to get his mojo back if we are to be successful.

None of us really know what to expect from our teams. Any team overconfident in any of these match-ups is probably in for rude awakening.

Go Nooks!

Can someone refresh my memory regarding what Shyiak did last year with the water bottle incident? Seems I forgot about it until I read this thread and someone casually mentioned it.

Sacred Heart wasn't very good. The fact that they ambushed Union last year probably served as a bit of extra motivation. Still Union did manage to put an 11 spot on Clarkson last season. I have no doubt that this weekend's games against the locals will be a lot tougher.

It would seem to me that the trip would take a lot out of the wandering Dutchmen. How do other visiting teams seem to deal with the travel? Wish I could be there, I hope the games are fun to watch.

You gain 4 time zones from the East Coast, At least a 3000 mile one way trip a the minimum, Anchorage has non-stops from Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Salt Lake City. So once you get to one of those big hubs you can make it to Anchorage. Than you get to wait in Anchorage until one of the 4 or 5 daily flight to the town of Fairbanks. (about another 45 minutes). When the "tournament" is over, you get to do it all over again and hope to get back to your hometown by sometime Sunday night as you lose those 4 hours on your trip back.

He got ejected for getting mad and throwing a water bottle out on the ice during play. The resulting 5-on-3 gave the Nanooks a 3-1 lead in the game.

I believe UAA reprimanded him and that was the end of it.

Can't speak for UAA, but UAF usually goes Fairbanks-Seattle nonstop and then on to their final destination. Tacking on the Anchorage stop adds at least a couple hours of travel time if you're Fairbanks bound. Alaska Airlines does quite well flying college sports teams in and out of AK.
