The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

It would be really appreciated if anyone who saw the UAF and Union game could comment on how Union looked. Impossible here back east to get any real feel for how the game went.

They looked Ok. They were just alittle slower than UA, maybe 1/2 a step behind most of the night. That was probably the difference in the game.
UAa and CC looked close. It wasn't the goon squads of past. The second goal was really nice.

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

I thought that was a welled played game last night by both teams. Up and down action. I thought the Nooks were a little faster and a better skating team, but the Dutchmen didn't give the Nooks room to finish. Union likewise looked well coached and played their systems well. They came right back at us.

The Nooks look good right up until the point we are supposed to finish our scoring chances, and we somewhat fizzle out. Need to figure out how to muck it up a little more around the opponents crease. But overall a good effort early in the season and a good college hockey game.

I think we give the opposition a little too much working room in front of Greenham and CC appears to be quite good at making teams pay for that. Should be another close game tonight.

A few photos from last night. I watched the game and took only a few shots. I haven't figured out how I need to adjust for the new (high) glass.

Taranto and Petovello were key players last night. Taranto with the tying goal and Petovello with the game winner...

Lots of up and down action, but also work along the boards...

Union continued playing their systems well and equally got their chances...

Nook defense blocked shots and came up big when necessary...

Taranto's goal tied the game in the second to the approval of the student section.

Union represented very well. I like the way they play and how they handle themeselves. Count me as a fan and I wish them luck this year, starting tonight.

Go Nooks!

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

I agree with mmf. Union looked good. They stuck to their systems, and were well coached. UA was a little quicker of the two teams. We missed burying a couple good chances. We need to sop making the one last pass, and just shoot the **** puck! Count me as a fan as well. They took few penalties, and played a nice clean game. I thought it was good college hockey. With the score being as close as it was, an odd bounce here or there could have changed this game. UA needs to become more physical. Ronnie Meyers was awesome again. He deserved the big ovation he got for the incredible job he did forechecking in the second. Hope the Nooks do well again tonight!

A few photos for our Seawolve friends. They played a good game.

CC passing and play around the net was good...

But the Seawolves countered with this PP goal ( I believe by Kwas) in the second. Seawolve goal #3...

The Seawolves created a lot of good chances..

It was a hard fought and close (in more ways than one) hockey game.

Go Nooks! :)

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

Being that I was probably the only person in the arena cheering for Union, my opinion could be considered biased by some. But I felt they started the game pretty strong. The power play goal they scored was pretty awesome, but that probably calmed Scott Greenham down a bit. I think there was a lot of neutral play for most of the game. Most of the fast break chances UA_ put on Union were relatively easy for your goalie to stop. Like others have said, it was a game that either team could have won.

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

Since the Nanook fans are always bragging about their attendance, tell me if the 2,691 fans reported for your game last night is correct or not.

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

We made it there just as the first period was ending for UAA and CC. Wow 3-2! A good game, and I think UAA will have a decent season if they can keep the momentum.
The Seats started filling up about the 3rd period of that game and for UA and UNION, it looked like it was a good crowd. I'm not sure about the 2691 number, and I assume that includes the Students who get in free. Bruce on the radio said it looked like 3000-3500 to him, and he's been guesstimating about right for a couple of years. Good One Tonite UA and CC..GO NOOKS.

It probably was pretty close to that. I even made a comment to my buddy that it wasn't as packed as normal. Tonight should be better, as it always is on Saturday. Not sure why wasn’t overly packed, other than the tickets are more expensive then the reg season. I heard a number people saying that they weren't happy paying for two games a day, when they were not going to the first set of games. It cost my wife and me around $70 for the games this weekend. We do pretty well, so it didn't kill us, but I'm sure that puts a hurting on most people. That was just for the games, that didn't include dinner, beer, etc......I cannot imagine what it costs people with kids etc...

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

Forrest Karr gave me the teams (for the Brice) for the next two years that are coming up.

2011-2012; Mercyhurst College & University of Nebraska at Omaha
2012-2013; Merrimack College & University of North Dakota

Bye the way, great job Nooks winning it again!

That was a great weekend of hockey! Lots of fast-paced, end-to-end, hard fought action, with all games being decided by a single goal. Anchorage looked pretty good, if they can just avoid falling behind early, they could do pretty well this year. Missed both of their first periods, but especially in the third against Union, they were just going all-out. I really liked Union, I think they matched the Nooks well, and seemed to play a similar style. CC looked good too, and Jaden Schwartz looks as good as advertised, with their only goal against the Nooks, and some crazy moves besides. Best of luck to all of them going forward!

Nice job by the Nooks for winning both games against good teams, and winning the Brice again! Overall I thought they looked pretty good, much more like I expected, compared to last weekend. Fast, good defensively, Greenham looked better this weekend, and generally good passing. Powerplay could still use some work though, I was having flashbacks of two years ago when the powerplay was less than impressive. Alright when they're still in the zone and cycling, but once they have to bring it back in, it's basically over. The box score says they had only 2 shots on 4 opportunities tonight... Hopefully that's something that improves as the season goes on :)

Nice fields for the next two years too. Mercyhurst must really like it up here, that'll be 3 times in 4 years. Anybody heard anything about next year's Kendall? Last year they had the upcoming field in the program, but I didn't see it this year.

I want princeton to make an appearance at the brice. That would be awesome.

Re: The Brice is Nice (UA_ hosts Union, CC and UAA)

Nice to read some kind comments about Union. This is a program which has become respectable over the past few seasons, but it's good to see how they stack up against established and quality programs. I was wondering if there was an all tournament team? Good luck the rest of the way.

Bruce would have been a great butcher as his thumb is always on the scale.:D

Sorry guys I just copied what was in the newspaper, not from Bruce. But the newspaper locally doesn't have the best rep for editing. I think I just mistyped the Gabe name tho.
