This was a very winnable game. Muse was terrible but Wilson was worse. I wish Darling hadn't let the team down.

oh come on
Wilson let in one or 2 weak ones.
max

he was not terrible and Muse was worse, in my opinion.

the D never cleared the front of the net out for Willy. The last goal was probably preventable, if the D had taken the puck carrier, rather than play the pass.

Whitney and Sneep each scored from Arlington because nobody cleared the crease. That is not Willy's fault.

There were a couple saves where he went way too far toe either side, and could not get back. that is his fault, but I did not think he was terrible.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

Mixed emotions right now. Salute Wilson, who was awesome on four straight nights to get us here and did all he could against a relentless BC attack. Salute Dek, who really turned it in lately.

They did much better than I would've thought on March 11.

I feel very disappointed that this team basically fell asleep for the first four games of the year and the 2-8 stretch. With how close the PWR is, I feel like if they even go 2-2 in the swept Union and UMass series' they're in. They have no where to look besides the mirror for why the season is over.

As entertaining as tonight's game was and as fun as it was to win last night, I feel like this team left some stuff on the table.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

one thing that did not suck was seeing Dumoulin on the ice and seeing Diamond skate around him to score the tieing goal

that might have been the best game I have ever seen.

Better than the 2002 NC game?

Better than the 2002 NC game?

yeah a little better
sucks when you got 2 teams against you, the team in Maroon and Gold and the team in black and white

Piotrowski, right next to Jack Parker in the hearts and minds of Maine fans everywhere

I was impressed at how well Maine moved the puck. I always remembered Maine as a trap team and tonight they came 'this' close to actually beating Boston College in a shootout. Usually teams that try and run with them get smoked. Maine was very fun to watch tonight.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

Maine has played above their talent level in these playoffs but this game shows that they really aren't in the same league as the good teams. They have a lot of heart and seem to be trying their hardest so they are easy to get behind but they need to add some top tier talent to get back to where we once were.

I disagree with this. I think they've finally been playing up to their talent level, besides the first line which kind of has been most of the season. I think they were playing below their talent level the last 3 weeks of the regular season.

This was a very winnable game. Muse was terrible but Wilson was worse. I wish Darling hadn't let the team down.

I agree it was winnable and Muse was bad. I don't think Wilson was worse. Muse is the guy with the NC who's supposed to be good. Wilson is a senior back-up. I give him a B, maybe B-

The two PPGs were point shots, screened/tipped not much he can do.

Lombardi's first goal was slid into the net by Nemec, not Wilson's fault.

The one Willy knocked into the net with his blocker was rough, shot might've gone wide. The winner he should've stopped and he could've gotten his leg to the post on goal #6 but it was a pretty bad defensive play and a funny bounce that led to it.

All in all he didn't get beat by clean shots much. Willy exceeded everyone's expectations except maybe his own.

someone has GOT to put that in their .sig
"I remember Maine as a trap team"

boggles the mind to think that anyone can have that impression of Maine Hockey.

(not that you are wrong, but Maine fans kindof like to REMEMBER Maine players forechecking ferociously, even 2 forecheckers while short handed)

i'm not putting this one on wilson in any sense of the matter, but if you ask him, he'd probably say he'd like to have a few of them back... the goal where willy overplayed the near post and the bc player fired it into essentially an open net... the one that wound up in the net with nemec... hayes' goal... almeida's goal he should have had the little floater that came in... th game winner (to a lesser extent)

make no mistake, willy's play got 'em to boston, and he deserves all sorts of credit for maine making it to the final

As a UNH fan, I admit that I never root for Maine (and certainly not for BC.) However, the Black Bears really impressed me this weekend. You didn't take anything for granted, and kept fighting back against BC. And your fans rocked the Garden. You should be proud of your effort, no matter the result.

I'm sorry that Maine won't make the tourney -- if you go on the premise that HE should be represented there by the stronger teams, then, based on what I saw this weekend, Maine would have stood a better chance in the NCAAs than I expect UNH or VT to.

Congratulations on winning home ice for the HE playoffs, and for almost winning the championship -- good job.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

What a great game...if you told me we would score 6 goals against BC and not win, I wouldn't have believed it. I love this team, they'll be back next year! And to the amazing Maine Fans at the Garden, Wow...you were head and shoulders the best fans/crowd at the tourney this weekend. Very impressive, I could hear Maine chants throughout the game both on TV and the radio. Truly the best Fans in college hockey....let's do it again next year!

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

I have to give full marks to Wilson under the circumstances he was thrown in...If I was at the Garden tonight I would surely ask him if there was a few he wanted back...Lombardi's hat trick was the luckiest hat trick i've ever seen. He got all the right bounces.

You got to give credit to the team for fighting back when it looked like they were out of it at 4-2.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

What, you're ignoring the luck of BC hitting three posts in the first 10 minutes of the game?

Lets be honest, BC could and should have scored 5 in the first period.

:D

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

If Darling doesn't take his hockey seriously, then he should have never come to Maine......LOSER.

Great weekend of hockey for the TEAM (a term that Darling doesn't understand).

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

I left you guys dead and buried after the UMass series. Good work knocking BU out and even better work tonight in never throwing in the towel. A lot of talented players should return for you guys. The one thing you'll need to figure out is the goaltending situation...never thought I'd say that about a Maine team.

Great battle tonight and good luck next year.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

Good things to come next year...only Dek and Swallow as dammmm solid role players are gone, though Carriere held together that fourth line when he was in and Willie played stellar throughout the playoffs, I think expectations are very high, as they should be. Goaltending has to improve, and the D needs to be more consistent. Next year is going to be great, mark my words. Back to the Garden with different results!!!!!

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

After a nights sleep, I'm playing the what if game, games they should have won killed them in the end. Looking at the teams in the NCAAs, I see a few Maine could beat and that's pretty disappointing. I hope their is a bad taste in their mouths and they remember that feeling next year.

The 2 biggest things for next season are Nyquist and Goaltending. Without Nyquist this is just another team. He draws a ton of attention leaving others on his line open. His skill level is such that he can make open ice from nothing(see BC forwards). Can't blame him for doing what he has to do, hopefully thats 1 more season at UMaine:p

Goaltending is the biggest question mark. Hats off to Willie, the guy persevered and in the end did himself proud. Thrown into the frying pan he gave Maine a chance to get into the NCAAs.

Sirman isn't ready so put that out of your mind.

The question is will Darling be ready or are they out recruiting another guy. Can Darling get himself ready? I think its possible the guy has some serious issues, its going to take some time and work to get over those things. If he can, will the team trust him, I know they say the right things but....

Maine seems to be set for next season other than 2 huge questions, can't wait to see how they answered. Is it October yet:p

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

What a hockey game! I am dissapointed that Maine lost, but happy with their never say die attitude and the way they kept pressing last night even when they down. Tough game to lose, but a heck of an effort against a very talented team.

Wilson let in a couple of soft goals last night, but kudos to this young man for stepping up and helping to get Maine into that game last night.

If you had told me before the season began that Maine would approach 20 wins and play for the HE title, I would have rolled my eyes. A positive season, with a few "what if's". We can all wonder what would have happened if this had happened or that etc, but the bottom line is that this team exceeded expectations and I look forward to next year.

Critical that Nyquist return and the goaltending situation is a question mark as well.

Congrats the da Bears and good luck to all the seniors, thanks for your time and effort and best of luck in the future.:)

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

Very proud of the way the team has played over the last two weeks. Far exceeded every expectation I ever had after the UMass series. A LOT of questions remain for next year. While I am optimistic, there are also some very real concerns. Just a few closing thoughts for now.

1. Tanner House is a great team leader, and one heck of a young man. Much of what I saw positive on this team this year appeared to be a reflection of House. A truly impressive captain.

2. Just how good could Wilson have been in a different situation? Flashes of brilliance, especially the last couple of weeks makes me wonder.

3. To follow up on the above, if we are ever to return to where we were a decade or so ago, we MUST become more than a one goaltender team. This is a combination of both recruiting, and a change in coaching philosophy. This "eggs in one basket" thing is not wise.

4. While keeping Nyquist is key, there are others emerging on the team as well. The speed and heart of Mangene, as well as the grit and talent of Diamond to name a couple in particular.

Very curious to see about what takes place in the off season for Maine. I do know that we have some great talent on this team, and players with a great deal of potential.

I too very impressed with maine and there never die attitude , nice to see them back there after a 4 year absence, moreover miss the days when both maine and unh were there. If you can remember that was when the place would sellout , as both schools bring a large crowd , thou i would have to give your fans the nod , very passionate bunch. Anyways looking for good things from you guys next year and hopefully we will see each other in the F Center.
