The 2nd Term - Round 2 - Amensty for Some, Miniature AR-15s for Others...

Might have been said before...its all related.

The issue is that by and large blue states are just wealthier (and for good reason). This drives the fact that red states both as individual citizens and as an entire state need more assistance. Thats just the facts.

Even the UN gets stuff Obama doesn't get as the UN and 8 former drug chiefs go after Obama for bailing on enforcing federal drug law:

Yet another embarrasment from this administration. How low will we be dragged in the next four years.

So spending billions to enforce marijuana laws against ordinary users isn't a ginormous waste of money? Glad to know your priorities are in the right place.

You can't force the states to enforce federal criminal laws. So the feds would have to do all the work themselves.

Also, since when do you give a flying fart about the U.N.?

Which is more of a lost war? The War on Drugs or the War on Poverty?

Under my plan, the people paying the taxes are getting that money back. Under the current plan, the people paying the taxes are having it sent to lazy conservatives in red states. Which one is fairer?
If you're so in favor of people being able to keep what's theirs, why not abolish taxes entirely? Who knew Rover was such a libertarian?

This is a new revelation. Too bad its only because it fits his argument today, later on he'll be telling us how great Obamacare is

Wait, when did Obamacare dictate that each person is only entitled to the amount of health care that his personal premiums have paid for?

I realize facts have a liberal bias, but check out the donor states vs the taker states and get back to me (I don't expect you to, but its worth making the request). On the Presidential level, which of course is the easiest to assess, the only "red" state paying more than they get is Texas. That's one hell of a coincidence don't you think?

how about if Savannah River is in your little MA town?? or Yucca Mountain?? :p

not really fair that you call the states that get the "money" to run these welfare states? is it? that gets them labelled as takers....

Considering the war on poverty was working until the stereotype of a black pregnant welfare queen buying lobster with food stamps arose in the 80's and we cut benefits across the board, I'd say the war on drugs wins that distinction by a wide margin.

I bring this all up to make an important point. 6 months ago conservatives out here and elsewhere were praising Mittens 47% comment as him Speaking The TRUTH! As in everybody for themselves. Now when I mention that blue states are subsidizing red ones, suddenly it becomes "we're all this together" and "collective responsibility". So, the conclusion to be drawn is either these people are raging hypocrites, or conservative economic theory has no practical application in the real world, as proven by their own comments objecting to a system where each state gets back at least 99% of what they put in. As I tend to look on the good side of people, I don't think they're hypocrites but rather subscribe to a theory that they object to if actually put into place. Perhaps they'll thank me for the free lesson someday. ;)

That's why more people in New York State get welfare than don't, right?

But New York doesn't go looking for handouts because of it. No, its a top ten net payer and helps support other states that don't support themselves.

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 2 - Amensty for Some, Miniature AR-15s for Others...

Yeah, Rover, you really got us. I don't know how we ever fell for the idea that you are such a lefty partisan that, while you never met a social program you didn't like, you'd prefer to deny any benefits you possibly could to poor people who have the wrong sorts of thoughts. Seems crazy, now that I think about it...

Last week, Mayor Bloomberg was quoted as saying that the taxes from 5,000 families supply 30% of NYC revenue. You have a relatively tiny amount of multi-millionaires supporting a very wide pool of people receiving benefits; and in some cases the benefits are absolutely absurd. There is something like 300 people receiving six-figure pensions merely because they gamed the overtime system right before they retired; there is a major prosecution underway for railroad workers who "retired" on "disability" pensions who show no evidence of disability (one of them competes regularly in triathlons, for example).

New York is really schizophrenic when it comes to the really rich and the really rich benefit packages. It's not safe to make too many generalities.

George Steinbrenner's death alone might have raised $500 million in taxes had there been an estate tax in 2010....while in aggregate it might look like NY pays more than they get; it is probably more realistic to say that a few neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn pay more than they get while the rest of the state gets more than they pay.

Still bringing up a talking point that's been proven false?
Modus Operandi.

You know that the president is a Kenyan Muslin who is a dictator in both the Fascist and Socialist models?
