The 2nd Term - Round 1 - Diving for Dollars

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 1 - Diving for Dollars

Yeah, they are a fun gun that is for sure. My wife's cousin and I shoot at old propane canisters up in the mountains with his AR-15.

I've been thinking about picking one up before they get banned again. God only knows when they'll be "legal" again if a ban does go through. Probably never.

Good luck. They're very tough to find, and if you do find one they're going for about $2500. Cabelas in Owatonna said when I was down there picking up my S&W that there is a 16 month wait for a new one.

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 1 - Diving for Dollars

Well, the overturning of the complete ban on handguns had little to do with the fact they were specifically handguns, rather, it was because they were a widely accepted weapon used for self-defense. Or at least that's how I read it.

Certainly that's how some read it. Personally, it seemed to me like the Court didn't like the fact that it was such a big ban on such a common gun used for self-defense. IMO, assault rifles don't fit the same bill.

Scalia was interesting in that decision because he walked *** backwards over what a true "originalist" would really think. But...that's a whole other topic.

It would be nice if they would have specified what the Standard of Review would be because that would likely decide the case.

$2,500? Most of the stores are advertising them for around $1,250. Even S&W.

Really? Maybe that $2500 price was just a spike, since that was in late December. If they're down to $1250 again, there have to be some people feeling pretty dumb about paying the $2500/

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 1 - Diving for Dollars

Looks like Cabela's has a bunch for under $1,500

http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/browse.cmd?N=1102333&WTz_l=SBC;BRprd1330449

No S&Ws but I know I saw them. Hell, I even found one local store that sold an M82A1 if you really wanted to drop $12k. Gander Mountain had it, but it's not listed anymore (I checked my internet history).

Edit:
Here it is:

http://www.gandermountain.com/modpe...Barrett-82A1-Centerfire-Rifle&i=723650&r=view

You can't find it by searching or going through their listings. You apparently need the exact URL. You apparently can't find them by searching Google Shopping either :p

Oh darn, I guess you'll have to settle for the SIG50 :p

edit: besides, you don't want a .50 caliber, you want a .338 Lapua http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=325685730
(the longest confirmed kill ever is with the .338 Lapua - 2,707 yards)

And how is a ban on the sale of guns going to stop people from using 3D printers that print steel? Not to mention, when you go to disassemble the gun (as if you were to go clean it), then you insert your sparking agent and other non-steel materials.

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 1 - Diving for Dollars

Facts can be so inconvenient sometimes.

This morning I read the following:

With just a single exception, the attack in Tucson last year, every public shooting in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed since at least 1950 has occurred in a place where citizens are not allowed to carry their own firearms

Assuming that those facts are accurate, there are plenty of different conclusions one might or might not draw. Merely to ignore those facts, however?

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 1 - Diving for Dollars

I really don't like the idea of a law with so much impact on such a complicated matter being tossed out there quickly to appease the mob.

Speaking of which, the New York law rushed to Cuomo's desk in knee-jerk fashion has a glaring flaw.
But hey, we all know that the criminals will turn in their large-capacity magazines.

Maybe we should stop hamstringing the ATF, then. The NRA's stated position is to enforce the laws on the books, right? Then let's unshackle the cops responsible for enforcing them.

Just because cops enforce the law does not make them above the law. Without procedures to keep them in check, we will end up with what is effectively martial law.

Are you referring to the same ATF that allowed gun dealers to sell guns to the Mexican drug cartel?? even after those same gun dealers questioned the wisdom of the plan??

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 1 - Diving for Dollars

If you read between the headlines today (and I'm assuming it'll increase in the week(s) to come) you'll notice a directive has been handed down through the media to smear the NRA with claims that they are lying about having "real" members who are individual people, claims that they support murder and mayhem and want to promote more of it, claims that they are "for-profit" (owned by gun manufacturers), and a lot of other ideas we see all the time here from our left wing friends being pushed in a more orchestrated and strident way.
Don't get sucked in. It's part of the game.

I've also been hearing more of this idea that if we keep handing off more and more of our individual autonomy to the federal government in the form of the ATF or some other 3-letter combo, they can act as a "big brother" and keep us all safe collectively, so we won't have to worry our heads about self-defense or about keeping individual freedoms anymore because they can just tell us what to do. Don't get sucked in. These are agents of tyranny.
