I'll let Rover defend himself regarding the rest of your post, but to be fair, he was making the point that there were substantial federal funds involved in the dredging of the Houston Ship Channel... which is true. He didn't claim the Feds initiated the project. We can add arguing from ignorance to your "style," since the dredging for the Houston Ship Channel was authorized by Harris County. Ed Markey was nowhere in sight. .
PS - Did Houston dredge that river themselves to create a port 30 miles inland, or where there substantial federal dollars involved?

Again, what difference does the funding mechanism for any of the projects I mentioned have to do with the point that Houston is a city that has a long history of thinking outside the box. You're a child. You think like a child. And you argue like a child. And what's worse, you think that makes you clever. But not so clever you pass up any opportunity to remind people of your cleverness.

From wikipedia:
On January 10, 1910, Harris County voted 16-1 to fund dredging the Houston ship channel to a depth of 25 feet (later dredged to a depth of 43–45 feet) for the amount of $1,250,000, which was then matched by federal funds.

On December 25, 2007, the Houston Ship Channel was featured on the CNN Special, Planet in Peril, as a potential polluter of nearby neighborhoods. That year, the University of Texas released a study suggesting that children living within 2 miles (3.2 km) of the Houston Ship Channel were 56 percent more likely to become sick with leukemia than the national average.[6]
Look Opie, like most old people I'm sure you see the generations that come after you as spoiled and beneath your vast experience. I half expect you to call me a whippersnapper. What you don't understand is your ideology is full of hypocrisy and BS, which is why you struggle to defend it. Houston is a great example. You'll mention how the city is forward looking and all that, but completely gloss over all the taxpayer and federal dollars used to make it that way. So, are you for federal spending on domestic things like that or not? Because if you start cutting 1T a year out of spending, things that you support such as this Houston port project will no longer happen.
EDIT: Kudos to Flag for Lionel Hutz reference! One of my favorite episodes of all time was The Devil and Homer Simpson where he briefly was Homer's defense attorney and started arguing the devil's (Flanders) case by mistake.![]()
I assume Houston's stadium is funded by taxpayers because both the Cowboys stadium and the Rangers stadium was.
I did, the second time. I was too young the first time. I have never denied it, and have never regretted it.Funny, because I can't find anybody who admits they voted for Bush.

As far as I know, Houston's major sporting venues (possible exception of the new soccer stadium) were all built using primarily tax money, though the taxes tend to be more in the nature of car rental and hotel taxes that mainly hit non-residents—I don't think they take anything from sales or property taxes, but I could be mistaken there.
I'm also not sure why OP would have any particular affinity for Houston, considering that the city itself is solidly blue (heck, our mayor's a lesbian) and Harris County as a whole is split just about 50/50 as of the last election.
Ignorance and prejudice. Nice. I voted for Kathy Whitmire for mayor 5 times.

Yes, but those two categories are mutually exclusive. you can't be both...by definition!
"hatchet man"will say or do anything to promote his "side" without regard to "truth" or lack thereof.
With these people, politics is sort of like college hockey, at least when it comes to the goofers and the sioux (DAMMIT!). Even I've found some good things in Andrew Cuomo, such as actually willing to push towards fiscal responsibility when it comes to NYSUT. His stance on arms is pushing me away from him, however you do have to look at what's important to you.
They had that little cockup when they didn't exempt cops from their stupid magazine limits. "We gotta do something right now" is almost always a prescription for disaster.
Conservatives like to say that they want the level of government closest to the people to be most active. Kathy Whitmire was a very good mayor, but I would have never voted for her for congress. She absolutely horrified the locals by campaigning in gay bars and appointing a black police chief among other sins. In one memorable campaign a mayoral candidate and several folks wanting to be on city council ran collectively as the "straight slate" (this was at the height of AIDS panic). Well, okay, you're straight, bring anything else to the party? Needless to say, they all lost.
Well, that's the vampire state for you.
Trying to argue with the racism whistle blowers is a lose-lose situation. If you hire a white dude, you're a racist. If you hire someone else, you only hired them because of their race. At least someone is willing to look beyond that.
