Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Talking to folks that were there last night- they didn't think Maine played that badly last night.
Lowell had a lot to do with the way Maine played last night

Does anyone know why Shemansky didn't play?

According to Tim he just wanted to see Diamond and Solomon. Beatty and Shemansky were out.

Didn't Banwell start the game at Forward? I know he played D later on but why would you leave Shemansky out when you have a Dman playing forward?.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

That and Merrimacks home record is 11-2-0.

After next weekend Merrimack could be 1 pt behind Maine.
They could actually be a point up on Maine after next weekend if they beat BC Tuesday night and then sweep Maine.

Seems like every year Whitehead plays the lets convert a dman to forward. Last year it was O'Neill year before Duffy this year Banwell etc. it makes absolutely no sense to have Banwell at forward when Shemansky is sitting in the seats.

I thought Carriere made a better forward but its kinda late in the year to be converting anyone when you're in a tight playoff race. The best part is he switched him back to D later in the game, not sure who's place he took?

I could see it making sense if one of the D's to start the game had injury issues, but who on D is that much of an impact player to not just sit them down and play Shemansky AND Banwell?

Well if thats his excuse why not sit Leidermark or Andersson and leave Shemansky in?

Typical Tim move.

Shemansky has not scored a goal in weeks, got really beat up at BU, and is looking tired. His line had a good night the first night at UVM and has done nothing since. I actually have been waiting for him to get an off night.

Liedermark is sent to take faceoffs in the d zone and kills penalties as does Anderson. Shemansky does not. I love the kid, he'll have a nice career at Maine, but it's important to look at some different combinations with the healthy players we have at this point.

And KIA I love ya, but that comment you made on tanking could be the most offensive post you have ever made!

Noone is happy with the loss when they really could have secured home ice with a win, but this is a young team that is still working the learning curve. Let's hope they can respond, 3 out of 4 wins to close the season we'll get them 3rd place. Unless BU goes 4 for 4.

Please, the guy once dropped three n-bombs in one post.

Shemansky has not scored a goal in weeks for 2 reasons, he is a one trick pony. Tip in Abbot's shots from the high slot. Good opposing coaches will know how to cover him...it is not tough to figure that one out. AND, Tim has not had him camping out in front of the net when he was playing recently.

as for my QUESTION about tanking, it was a question.
I asked if you suppose that they might have done it on purpose. I sure cannot imagine that they were all hung over like they were in about 95 when they lost to UMass when Maine was the Number 1 team in the nation and they got walked on by the very last place team out in Amherst. (NO, I do not know that they were hung over, but I have absolutely NO other explanation for what I saw... you and I would not have looked out of place on that team that day.)

Maine completely annihilated UMass Lowell twice this season. COMPLETELY. then the got walked on....
Falite is good
Hutton is good (as is Hamilton). Holmstrom might an NHLer in the near future. Edwards is good. BUT THE TEAM has sucked recently, just plain sucked and Maine got walked on.

You explain it. I simply questioned whether a plausible explanation is that the boys threw the game... maybe BC taught em how to shave points so that someone would be happy in Vegas (how's that for offensive?)...

so... what is the explanation, then?
Chloral Hydrate in the gatorade on the bench?
dumb luck,
betting scandal?
they were absolutely appalled and shocked to find out that possession of a beer by a minor in public was a citable offense?

maybe, just maybe they are tired and burnt out from overachieving for so long. Tim used to know how to get the teams to peak at the right time. Jerry York is a master of that. Do you suppose that they peaked a little too early?... just asking

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Come on Wally, these are the movers and shakers you're talking to. They can get Tim fired. All they have to do is call up their buddy in the president's office and he's gone. BTW, has anyone seen his VIPness lately? It's strange for him to be away for so long...and at this time of year, too...
=+.

I dunno what's worse, our level of idiocy in your mind, or the fact that we are your only audience, and you keep preaching to us

I don't disagree with your take on Shemansky. I just think he is a MUCH better option at forward than putting Banwell out there and on top of that it throws the 2nd PP unit out off not having him out there. If Tim was looking at it from a defensive perspective that didn't work either because the team D stunk as it has for weeks.

Thought Banwell played well up front on Friday.........played with grit, hit anything that was red and disrupted UMass in their end on the heavy forecheck.....Did not see the same intensity on Sat.......
Added some size and pysicality up front
