The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Interesting game, wherever Nyquist was, Lowell overloaded that side of the ice, Flynn was alone. It was fun to watch that line. Dee's line generated some chances, Deks PP goal was a beauty. I wish Diamond was out there on the 4th line, not sure why he wasn't? No matter how excited you got for the offense the D was pitiful, just brutal. Turnovers, missed assignments, bad clears, you name it, the D did it. Darling wasn't on and this game should have been a blow out but it wasn't until the end of the 3rd. I hope Maine gets their D together for Tomorrows game

Diamond had a neck strain. He should be able to play tomorrow night. Hegarty turned the puck over on one goal early in the game and Nyquist gave up one also. In fairness to Nyquist he lost an edge on his skate and went down leading to the score. The River Hawks pressured the puck very well. Flynn 's 7 assists (school record), was so much fun to watch. Flynn's 5 goals was the most since Masur did it in 1987 ( back in the Gary Conn era). What a night at the Alfond!:)

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

If Lake State wins or ties, Maine will be 14th in the PWR, if Alaska wins they are 15th. Both would get them in the NCAA tournament.

14th would be paired up with Wisconsin in Albany or St. Paul, 15th would be Denver in Worcester or St. Paul.

Thanks for crunching the numbers.:D

Great night by Flynn, but a couple of corrections. Mazur's 5 goals were in 1987 in a 9 - 2 win over Lowell. Gary Conn also scored 5 in a game and that was in the fall of 1978 vs. Mt. Allison.

All 3 Kariya's along with 7 others had the old record of 6 points in a game. While Nyquist and House each had 4 assists, the record is 5 held by 6 players.

Nice to see a player achieve these goals, now let's go out and win tonight!

Tonights game is on tv for those who can't make it:) . Like to see a better effort on D . Be nice if the D would move the puck a little quicker in their zone also. Wonder what Lowell try to do to the Nyquist line? I see some physical play tonight:)

They said on the postgame on the radio that Mazur had 5 goals for Maine, and only one other guy, somebody from UHN, had 5....now am I crazy, or didn't Brian Gionta have 5 in a game against Maine around '01 or '02? (in one period, no less!)

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Everyone was congratulating Flynn after the game...I think Maine realized they can't take a period off and Lowell showed the ablity to comeback. I believe Maine will play a 60 minute game tonight.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Amazing Maine committed no penalties. Especially, with Gravellese in attendance. There was at least one Maine penalty that the officials missed ( he typically is a matching penalty type of official). I may have to re-evaluate my opinion of him.:D UML is down a couple of players as well. Scheu (hand) and D'Augustino (sp.).

Gionta did score 5 against Maine. If my memory serves me correctly he scored 4 in one period an another later in the game. Amazing game though for Flynn, got rewarded for crashing the net. Hope they saved some goals for tonight.

I agree the D needs to tighten it up. I dont think you can get a win playing the top teams in the league playing like that. Its weird to be preaching that Maine D needs to play better. It wasnt that long ago Jimmy Howard was losing games 1-0 and Maine just couldn't score goals. Maine, with the exception of 93' season has always been made up and won because of defense so it will be interseting to see where the other side of the spectrum takes em.

Gionta scored all 5 of his goals in the 1st period that night.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

on 5 shots, if I'm not mistaken.
I'm pretty sure that it was 5 for 5 on shots. I was at BC that night and it was one of the wackiest things I've seen at a game I think all of them were scored in something like the last 10 or 12 minutes of the period as well.

Boy it's going to be a nailbiter as far as the PWR. From the looks of it the only way BU gets in the show is to win the HE tourny.

After they beat PC tonight ;), their remaining four games are against TUC. Win 3 of those and win two more in the HE quarters and they might be OK. They'll have to at least get to the Garden to earn a bid.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I can't seem to find it anywhere...how much did Notre Dame win by against Bowling Green?

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I Can't seem to find it anywhere, what is Notre Dame's record THIS season against BU and at the Agganis?

You're comparing playing BU at Agganis to playing Bowling Green in whatever Godforsaken barn they call home?

That makes sense.
