Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Break the law! break the law! When will UMaine hockey players learn that they need to obey the same state laws that the rest of the students do?

They do. I worked in Residence Life up there. If this kids' name was Ryan Smith and he was a 19 year old sophomore from Milo, this wouldn't have even made the student paper.

But Ryan Smith doesn't play hockey! Like it or not......there are LAWS and they ARE under a microscope. I don't care if 99.9% of underage college students drink.......that's just the way that it is. Don't be DUMB enough to get caught! And if you get caught.......you will pay the price like anyone else and them some because you are in the public eye. What is so effin difficult to understand about this?

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

It's always the same old, same old.......college kids drink, blah, blah ,blah. No sh*t Sherlock!

And EVERYONE knows that the legal drinking age is 21 (like it or not) and EVERYONE knows that if you are a UMaine hockey player that you will be in the BDN if you caught (like it or not). These guys just can't seem to grasp this fact......maybe they wear it as a badge of honor.

Maybe Mr. Hegarty should concentrate on improving his game......he hasn't been that impressive since arriving in Orono.

Too bad all of us can't be as straight-laced and law abiding as you, Sandy....these are college kids, FCS

I wonder what percentage of under age college kids actually make it to the age of majority before evil alcohol actually passes over their lips. I would venture to say less than 25% :p

It might be closer to 0 but what bugs me is getting caught. I never got caught, my guess is you never got caught, why are these guys getting caught

True, but how stupid do you have to be to walk into the lobby of a ResLife building carrying an open one?

If you're underage and wanna drink, at least have the smarts to keep it behind closed doors.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

This was in last Thursday's Campus, and is said to be "Sunday" (but no date is given). It was either Jan 31 or Feb 7. So if this is the same person as the player (and all signs point to it being him), then he should have already faced any discipline the team was handing down.

This. HAS is actually been in the BDN? Are they asleep over there or is there more at play here? Priceless is right about the timeframe? Should be over and done with by now and instead it's just now coming out? Doesn't pass sniff test.

Did he play in both games last weekend? Tim has suspended every player that I know of that has gotten in trouble with the law.

Or at least disguise it something no one would suspect. Like a red plastic Solo cup. :D

Long time no see rufus.

The piece that I found was in the Edge, a local weekly free paper in the Bangor area. The paper was dated 2/10/08, Sunday in question would probably be 2/7.

Not every police item makes the BDN. The Edge did not identify him as a Umaine Hockey player, so I am assuming the police report did not contain this fact. If that fact was omitted from the police report there would be little chance of an item like that making the BDN.

I know the odds are long, but there may be another 19 year old Ryan Hegarty at Umaine.:p

Edit:

A little article from today's BDN about Jimmy Howard.

There is currently only one "Ryan Hegarty" listed in the UMaine directory on FirstClass. My guess is it was him.

I've been here. Where you been?

Whitehead said Hegarty's scholarship has been reduced and he is required to perform nine hours of community service. Hegarty will dress for this weekend's series against Lowell, Whitehead said.

Sooooo, injuries have the team short on defensemen, so TIMMAY doesn't bench or suspend him, like he's done with everyone else in the past. Nice to see he sticks to his standards. Think Jeff Marshall or Sill or Czuba get treated the same way?

Who cares? The team is better off with Hegarty playing than sitting. He didn't do anything out of the norm for college students.
