The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I didn't think Miane played horribly, but BU did outplay them pretty convincingly, and defense was flatfooted and timid. I'd guess TIMMAY wanted to play a conservative trap game, try to limit BU's chances, and hence had the team on its heels and hesitant to take chances, afraid to make mistakes, instead of just playing the game. In short, last year's 'system'.

BU really took it to the defense, and Maine defense was too busy following the puck to pick up the uncovered men coming into the zone. Had trouble with BU's team speed and the hustle of their forwards all night. Couple that with a subpar outing by Darling, and that's what we end up with.

Bingo !!

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Hopefully Maine is POed this week and takes it out on Lowell, not getting a point at BU wasn't what I expected:(

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Poor effort this weekend, in all phases of the game, IMO. Maine really needs to come out against Lowell the way they played against UNH in the second/third period. Last year's strategy (conservative play) DOES NOT WORK Tim!!!! We have seen it time and time again this year, with a goal or 2 goal lead, the opponent always gets back into it, when you go back to this gameplan. Maine needs to play aggressive hockey for 60 minutes each and every game to have a chance to advance in the HE playoffs, and ultimately in the NCAA's.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

The River Hawks also need some wins coming in to the Alfond this weekend. This should be a real battle. At this point I don't know what to expect. I thought Maine would at least come away with 2 points against BU.:( With BU having at least 6 (according to Larry), NHL 1st or 2nd round draft picks and a team that has finally come together, I guess I was expecting too, much.:( I think this team has enough character and leadership to bounce back against the River Hawks.

Punch to the balls this weekend. Hopefully home ice will lift the boys in the battle with Lowell.

Anyone know the w-l for Tim and Shawn against BU, BC, UNH? Seems to me that Tims had difficutly with these squads...

Gonna be a fun final 3 weeks to see how this HE thing shakes out.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I can't say that I'm surprised Maine got swept. Maine better sweep Lowell next weekend to have any chance at home ice.

Not sure it is that dire. A split should keep them in good shape for top 4. The league is wide open. NU swept UMass and The Mack took 3 from VT at VT this weekend.

I count 9 drafted BU players total (Shattenkirk, Colby Cohen, 1st round, Trivino 2nd). I don't think the Black Bears necessarily need a sweep against ULowell, at least one win though. IMO, the UMass series are the most important games left on the schedule - Lowell has been falling apart for awhile, but they are still a dam good team. UMass, like Maine, is in the hunt for home ice, and we NEED to get the tiebreaker, because BU is friggin HOT and they will definitely be in the running. Should make for a fun 3 weeks in the RS. Let's go Bears! Show us the team we all know you can be!!!

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

as quickly as the two wins over unh shot maine up the pairwise, the two losses to bu have them now sitting in 17th... ugh... and a sweep of lowell would likely knock them out as a TUC and with it, a comparison win for maine and a 3-0-0 line from the TUC comparison against everyone else.... Umass series and the HE quarter finals are going to be huge

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Thought Maine was out-quicked tonight and thought they looked almost intimidated by BU's forwards at times. Seemed like they were panicky below the dots and BU's top 2 lines were kind of allowed to do what they wanted down deep, contrasted by Nyquist given basically no space to do the same at the other end.

Also thought the refs kind of jobbed Maine in the final 10 minutes, no shot to get back in it down a man.

Haven't seen them at home this year, but based on what I saw at BU and BC, versus the result with UNH, I'm guessing they must be a different club at Alfond? They're going to need it next week.

The D is panicky at Alfond also . The team doesn't have a Prestin or Peter or etc. The D has improved compared to the last few years but it still isn't what it takes to beat good teams on the road apparently

Speaking of....I'm not going to make it up there. Do you guys have internet video broadcasts of games?

Maine no longer sells individual game webcats, but they've got cstv All-Access. Just sign up month-by-month and don't forget to cancel. Link should be on the men's ice hockey schedule page.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I know it was a tough weekend for Maine, but I just wanted to congratulate you guys on an excellent fan turnout last night. One of the best visiting crowds I've seen at Agganis in a while. Lots of fans and lots of noise, and as far as I could tell, it was all clean. Just reaffirmed my belief that Maine has the best fans in Hockey East.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I've used some of their broadcasts before and it looks like it's available for both UML games.

Maine's fans could be audibly heard throughout the game on the radio. I was very very impressed with their vocal support.

Kudos to them.

Thank you for the kind words.:) The last time I was at Agganis (2005 or 2006), I thought the BU fans were respectful and knowledgeable hockey fans. Fun watching the two student sections at opposite ends of the ice.

Bellamy's sister just took a penalty for team USA.

I am shocked, SHOCKED that a Bellamy would do such a thing.
