The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Was at the game and it should have been 2-2 after 2. Darling let in 2 soft ones and was off his game, Tim said as much in the BDN. Knowing Darling would be playing again tonight Sirman goes in to try and light a spark under the team. Gonna have to find out if this kid can play at some point or we need another 'tender. So what is all the b&tching about Sirman going in?

And BoSox please put the Lundin thing to rest! He was not the same caliber as Bishop.

As far as the game was concerned BU did not skate Maine out of the building and I did not see a big disparity in talent. Maine answered them to tie it 2-2 and then allowed a ppg and IMHO VanDyk made a bad decision on an attacking forward going at him strong and allowing for a 2-1 that was sniped.

First line did not generate any offense and in fact spent much of the night in their own end and were all -2 on the night. Let's hope they respond tonight, and that Shemansky is okay as he went off with a leg injury with 40 seconds to go, but did get back on to shake hands, albeit gingerly.

.

How'd Sirman look to you? hence the b itching.

And Lundin may not have been as good as Bishop but he led the nation in 2 key stats and was good enough to split time with Bishop. He certainly pushed Bishop enough to compete in practice for playing time. We'll put it to rest when you admit Tim made a mistake running Matty out of town:D

Bishop only backstopped two teams to the Frozen Four. What a bust.

What has Lundin done since he left? He had nice games against bad opposition which helped his stats, but he wasn't a top class goalie.

Did the rink make a difference last night? I know its not the full olympic size but i'm pretty sure it is wider than an NHL sized rink that Maine is used to playing on. If you remember back to the third weekend of the season Maine had a really tough time playing at UMA and UNH. It was probably Darling's worst weekend of the season.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Tough one last night. Hopefully the boys can shake it off and play a full 60. i think Darling will be fine and motivated to get the job done tonight. Need at least a point.

I don't think it is time yet to write off Sirman. I need to see a few more bad starts to put him in Willie company.

How does Sirman get credited with a loss? When Darling was relieved it was 4-2 BU and Maine never tied it after that. Anybody know the rule?

Hope a better outcome is in the offing tonight!

I could care less what he has done since he left, My concern was what he did while at UMaine. How does he compare to Willie or Sirman?

Wilson has played a few good games in his career something Sirman hasn't even come close to yet unless you count the game against the high school kids. As a freshman Wilson had a 3.11 gaa and a .893 sv% both below average, but Vezina like compared to 5.93 and .823.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

This feels like after every game last year. If they win tonight, they're right back on track, and pairwise will be solid still. If not... ugh.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I didn't think Miane played horribly, but BU did outplay them pretty convincingly, and defense was flatfooted and timid. I'd guess TIMMAY wanted to play a conservative trap game, try to limit BU's chances, and hence had the team on its heels and hesitant to take chances, afraid to make mistakes, instead of just playing the game. In short, last year's 'system'.

BU really took it to the defense, and Maine defense was too busy following the puck to pick up the uncovered men coming into the zone. Had trouble with BU's team speed and the hustle of their forwards all night. Couple that with a subpar outing by Darling, and that's what we end up with.

Darling will be back on track tonight, I see victory for the Bears. Mark my words:D

Puhleaze. What's Bish done since he left? Last I heard St. Louis was trying to trade for Cory Schneider. Better yet, what'd Bish do as a junior? Had an eight game losing streak and Timmy couldn't spell him to get him right becuase he ran the backup outta town.

Maine gets to the Garden in 07 if Lundin's still around, that was the year Willie imploded down at UMass in the quarters.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

It would be good to grab a lead tonight for a change. 4-3 Maine with goals from Abbott, two from Nyquist, and O'Neill.

Wow do you actually spend time thinking about all this:confused:

Some of you guys really need to get a life!

Let's see team is just swept UNH at home, took 3 of 4 from Vermont and since we got beat for the FIRST time with Darling in net since November 14, 2009 at Northeastern people are apoplectic, Lundin = Jimmy Howard and the team looks like they could lose the rest of their games!

They are playing the frigging Defending National Champions in their barn! They got suspect goaltending, made bad decisions and their first line was shut down! I did not see Maine playing any kind of trap, in fact I think they tried to play to wide open which resulted in too much space for BU's talented forwards.

The one troubling thing to me is in the last 4 games we have fallen 2 goals down. Last 3 we came back, and even last night we did, only to relinquish the lead again.

It will be tough tonight, but folks this team has much more talent than the editions of the last two years! Even if Matt Lundin is not the back-up!:D

Do you even read people's posts or do you just enjoy making things up?

Originally, I said that Sirman shouldn't be playing again this year. Period. I wondered out loud why Whitehead would put him in last night when he never hooked Bish when Bish had a superior backup.

You and others turn that into me crying doomsday about a team that just swept UNH and took 3 at UVM and is T-8 in the PWR? Don't know where you're getting that.

I know exactly why Whitehead did it...trying to light a fire under the D who were playing poorly. It failed. Sirman isn't good enough to be used that way this year, and that was my original point. And it's odd that Whitehead would try it since he never did with better back-ups than Sirman.

D

you did not see the trap?
like when VanDyk stood still in front of his blue line... and was already there before the puck was out of the BU defensive zone... that is kindof, traptacular...

Seems like we have to be down 2 goals to have Maine play their game with the forecheck and look for turnovers in the offensive zone. Maine has to play the body instead of the stick check crap. No bodies were flying last night.......Trap is boring hockey, this team not good at it as they lack size.
