The 2024 GQP Thread: Because Deutsche Gopher Fan ENDED the Last One

It very much is a case by case basis...

When you have a Gacy/Dhamer type situation where there is no question they did it and they smiled while doing it, I have zero issue. But as mentioned, I can also see/feel the hesitation where the case is built on shaky ground.

Yes, definitely. Particularly given all the documented cases of PDs and DAs destroying and/or manufacturing evidence, and the massive racial bias whenever derps are in charge.

Many (not all) of these problems go away if we simply stop giving conservatives any power, at any level, any place, ever.

So they want to create chaos and a possible war at the convention? I realize Trump is smoking Haley and will continue to but she still got in the 40s in NH and likely will be around there up until Super Tuesday. That is a lot of people to upset in an already shrinking base over a foregone conclusion...

They don't care about winning over new voters. They plan to suppress the vote and challenge the results as much as possible.

Their mother didn't get justice - she's still dead. Her surviving family got vengeance, which they have twisted into "justice" in their heads so they can feel better about it. Honestly, no state which practices capital punishment should allow anyone other than the necessary authorities to attend executions.

If you're going to claim to be 'pro-life', you'd better be consistent about it. It's arguably the one thing the RCC's doctrines get right, since they do allow an exception for "double-effect" to their position on abortion. Although there is some wholly unnecessary debate over which methods of addressing ectopic pregnancies and other conditions that threaten the mother's life are permissible.

Vengeance is tricky, because we live in a varied population and many of our fellows never came down from the trees.

Populations that have made the jump from revenge to justice don't need public hangings. They have moved up the pyramid and are civilized.

But then we still have conservatives. Unless we want to entirely disenfranchise them which, well, I'm listening, but I don't see a peaceful way, we still have to pay lip service to their cowardice and rage enough so the pressure doesn't all build up inside the baby. Conservatives who live in a civilized society become colicky. And unless we plan to shoot them into the sun and, again, I'm open to it, but otherwise we have to maintain enough violent spectacle to periodically burp that baby.

The ideal would be to have all countries coordinating their conscript conservative corporals continually slaughtering each other in forever wars over nothing, with a bright shiny medal for the winner, but airplanes and missiles ruined war for that purpose and people can be hurt now.

We keep saying Rs are stupid, selfish hypocrites, but they consistently figure out ways to win elections and, as a result, judgeships. Sure, they cheat, but they cheat by winning local elections. Unfortunately, our system rewards just that.

The R's with the power aren't stupid, they've ridden the herd of orcs quite well.

The individual R voters are stupid, but they don't matter. They're just fuel fed into a furnace to keep the rich men south of Richmond comfortable.

Not lately.

Care to wager?

Oh I'm not going to pretend he won't win, probably handily, but there's a reason we hold the actual votes. Hell, we at least need to hold the votes in states with actual populations that award more than a handful of delegates, that being what matters here. It's like calling the Super Bowl based on which team came out of the tunnel more convincingly.

...if the Lions could come out of the tunnel with Goff riding a real lion...

I don't support capital punishment because the state should not be in the business of killing people, especially when you just can't "know" in 100% of cases.

But nitrogen is absolutely the least cruel of a cruel and awful punishment. We had a couple people go unconscious in a nitrogen accident a number of years ago. They later said it was just like falling asleep.
