The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

Historically, this looks like a streaky tournament. BU obviously has had the better of it but NU won all theirs in the 80s, BC is on one now and only used to win 1 per decade. But like they say, anything can happen in this tournament. The matchups are good for the early rounds, 2 old rivals, and then a revived NU team against a talented HU team.

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

A successful alum has the best seats in the house for opening night of the Beanpot. As he sits down, another man--a stranger--comes by and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him.

"No," he says, "The seat is empty."

"This is incredible," said the stranger. "Who in their right mind would have a great seat like this for the Beanpot, the biggest sporting event in Boston, and not use it?"

The successful alum says, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Beanpot we haven't been to together since we met as students back in the day."

"Oh," says the stranger. "I'm so sorry to hear that. But couldn't you find someone else--a relative or friend, or even a neighbor--to come here with you?”

The alum shakes his head and replies, "Nope, they're all at the wake."

And that, boys and girls, is why--win or lose--the Beanpot is something special.

mookie guessing a walk up can get a ticket off scalper for $2. then after first game for another $2

I'll believe it when I see it. A scalper would never do that, but maybe a disgruntled fan from the losing team. I paid $40 for my lower bowl seat.

I must be getting old when a game that realistically won't start til 8:30ish seems too late to want to go into.

Unless the 1st game goes into OT, it's suppose to be an 8 PM start for the nightcap tilt

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

I would like to preempt the first person to ask the annual question:

No, the game does not go down as a tie if the winning goal is scored 5:01 or later in overtime.

It's the Beanpot.. I expect a Harvard-BU final.. with Harvard taking it. I am not kidding.. Crimson are for real. Now Huskies.. feel free to upset the apple cart.

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

Anyone know if the games are going to be broadcast on non-college radio? I'll be on the Mass Pike for the beginning of the NU game.

I think BU games are still on 1510 and BC games are on 850 AM... but I'm not sure about NU-Harvard. Best bet is probably thru a phone app and plug it in to your speakers if you're fancy like that.

Also:

-The home and away designations are determined by a coin flip
-The games do not count in the Hockey East standings when conference teams play one another
-The consolation game can end in a tie
-BC, not actually in Boston

Did I miss anything?
