The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

The BU magic is gone from this thing. All you need to know is BU has lost two consolation games in the last 4 years.....to Harvard. I don't know when BU finished 4th prior to then, but it had only happened 4 times in the history of the tourney before these two times, and certainly not anytime in the past 30 years.

If Quinn can find a way to pull this one out, I'll be thrilled. But this is just a BU team that is not good. They got outshot by UMass by a 2-1 margin on Friday night for chrissakes.

Can we get Russ Bartlett in the house?

Eh, we disagree. I'm not a fan of shootouts during the regular season, but since it's a tournament, I'm okay with it.
I want a BU/BC game that goes 5 overtimes and degenerates into the two fan bases screaming expletives at one another.

I enjoy that rivalry immensely. And not just because one of them has to lose...

Ahmmmm. I thought you quit this place the other night??

:D

You don't need five overtimes for that to happen!! :D

So....I'm excited about tonight. I don't think BU has a chance in h-e-double hockey sticks at winning tonight. In fact, it will most likely be over in the first period. OK, maybe the second. But you know what? That's beside the point for me. Due to work travel, I haven't seen BU play in person in a while so I'm looking forward to seeing a live game. And it's the Beanpot. It's special for all of us that participate every year. I am really sick of fans of non-Beanpot schools badmouthing it. I don't care if you don't think it's a great tournament. No one asked you. I like it. It's what I do the first two Mondays in February. To me, it IS a big deal. So I'm going to go, cheer for my team, and watch college hockey, which I haven't done in a long time.

I may even make it in to see some of the Harvard-NU game. Not thrilled at the weather at the moment, but hopefully that will not be an issue later.

Now I've got a bad feeling about tonight...
because Scarlet isn't a nervous wreck and didn't mention that she's got a bad feeling about tonight.

No problem...only light snow...maybe an inch or two....wait...isn't that what they said in 1978? We walked back to Myles in a foot of snow.
(Just kidding, though - it won't be like that tonight) :D

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

Also:

-The home and away designations are determined by a coin flip
-The games do not count in the Hockey East standings when conference teams play one another
-The consolation game can end in a tie
-BC, not actually in Boston

Did I miss anything?

No, the trapezoid is not in play.

Every thread is immensely more entertaining when Jon shows up.

Well put, I agree 100% and the people that bad mouth it are jealous that their schools aren't involved ........................and it's good to see you post again

You are so going to regret that when I finalize my Game of Thrones/HE team mashup.

When does the Harvard/NU game start? It's 5:35, I see players on the ice, but the refs keep blowing the whistle.
No hockey allowed in this game, eh? This is freakin' horrible... who are those refs? Harvard might as well head home. They have like 100 fantom PIM already.

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

Manson must have agreed with. He showed the refs what a REAL penalty is. :D
Actually, that's a nice hit if he doesn't get the stick up and across Kerfoot's face mask. ;)

These officials cannot be real. One of the worst performances I have ever seen by an official. What is this the NBA? Your job is to officiate the game, not change it.

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

Manson hit wasn't smart. 2-0 lead in the first period what is the worst thing your captain could do? Probably take a 5 minute game misconduct penalty. Not smart at all.

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

These refs should be ashamed of themselves. BC better watch out because they could end up with a lot of time in the box with their aggressive style of play.

Tough to see Harvard get beat up this bad. They have a lot of individual talent but can't string together more than a couple of passes. Donato seems to be a fish out of water coaching there, would be shocked to see him not get fired this offseason. Really impressed by Kerfoot's play as a true freshman, not surprised that BC was so high on him.

On the flip side, Im very impressed with Madigan's coaching. Don't understand why Northeastern people aren't a big fan of his, gets his kids to play a physical, team style with arguably less talent than others in HE. Witt is the real deal in net, very calm presence in net.

Re: The 2014 Beanpot: The 25th Times a Charm

These guys must ref women's hockey. Someone has to tell them hitting is allowed in the men's game. Those last 2 penalties... H guy takes a swipe at the puck in Witts pads before the whistle. NU guy defends his goalie with a push. They both get 2:00. Unfrickin' real. This is one horrible game to watch.
