For one thing, because Rob Ryan didn't have his defense playing like that the whole game. Even if I weren't a fan of either team I would have wanted the 'Boys to lose, becaue it drives me nuts when a team plays a whole game pressuring the quarterback (and getting good results) then goes soft in the last two minutes.

Kevin Faulk, Brandon Deaderick, and Ron Brace all practiced today, so the Pats now have three weeks before they have to remove them from the PUP list. The DL depth should come in handy, and if Faulk is really healthy, there's no reason he can't contribute as well.

I can see Faulk being activated and either that rookie RB or Woodhead going on the IR. Pats have lots of depth at RB and if somebody isn't 100% Faulk is a good guy to have around, especially come playoff time.

Regarding the linemen plenty of room there for extra bodies.

Jets coach Rex Ryan’s Super Bowl boasts no longer are confined to his predictions for the future.

On Wednesday, Ryan said that, if the Chargers had hired him to be their coach in 2007, he would have led the Chargers to at least two championships by now.

“Well, I think I would have had a couple rings,” Ryan told San Diego reporters, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “I’m telling you, those teams were loaded.”

Implicit in Ryan’s message is that Norv Turner has failed to get the most out of that loaded team. Which isn’t exactly the best way to keep Turner from rolling his sleeves up a little higher and working a little harder to come to New York on Sunday and beat Rex’s Jets.

Perhaps realizing that he stepped in a pile of something other than dead leaves, Rex tried to scrub his shoes a little bit. “Obviously, Norv Turner has done a great job there and A.J. and everybody,” Ryan said. “That’s a great franchise. He was probably the best guy for the job at that time.”

If Rex thinks he would have won a couple of Super Bowls in the four seasons since Norv was hired, Rex necessarily doesn’t think Norv was the best guy for the job. Unless the goal of the game is to not win Super Bowls.

Frankly, I'd prefer it if they'd sell the team with more shirtless pictures of Gronk! and other players ( I'm sure there's even a limited market for shirtless Wilfork pictures)

And now they place Dowling on IR. Well, it's not like they didn't see this coming. The guy has been injury riddled since high school, and they took him with the No. 33 pick in the draft anyway. The offensive lineman with cancer who they took in the fifth round is likely to contribute more than him this year.

Mike Reiss ran this revealing piece yesterday:
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots' release of cornerback Leigh Bodden highlights the volatility of the team's decision-making in the secondary since 2007. They've invested a lot, connecting on a few of those investments, but wildly missing on others.

A rundown of some of the top decisions:

2007 -- Drafted safety Brandon Meriweather (no longer with team) in the first round.

2008 -- Drafted cornerback Terrence Wheatley (no longer with team) in the second round and cornerback Jonathan Wilhite (no longer with team) in the fourth round.

2009 -- Signed free agent cornerback Shawn Springs (no longer with team) to a three-year contract worth $10.5 million.

2009 -- Drafted safety Patrick Chung (starter) and cornerback Darius Butler (no longer with team) in the second round.

2009 -- Signed Kyle Arrington to the practice squad, who has emerged as a starter.

2010 -- After he had a solid 2009 campaign on a one-year deal, re-signed Leigh Bodden (no longer with team) to a four-year, $22 million contract with about $10 million guaranteed and $14 million in the first two years.

2010 -- Drafted cornerback Devin McCourty in the first round.

2011 -- Drafted cornerback Ras-I Dowling in the second round.

Would it be a stretch to suggest that was the most one-sided eight-point football game played at any level since the sport was invented in the 1860s? Seemed like complete domination for 55 of the 60 minutes. How they even had the ball down six at the end is beyond me.

Pretty lousy effort given that they had two weeks to prepare and they usually handle Pittsburgh. Bad in all three phases of the game.

Now they have the Giants and then at the Jets the next two weeks. Should be interesting . . .

Losing to the Steelers in Pittsburgh isn't that bad in of itself. They're a good team with extra motivation to finally beat the Pats. The problem is this team has several fatal flaws that will stop any playoff run dead in its tracks. These are:

1) Any good defense knows how to slow down the Pats O. With no deep threat, you put your best corner on Welker, best safety on Gronkowski and then clog the zone between the line of scrimage and 20 yards downfield. There's no place for the WR's or TE's to operate and eventually Brady have to get rid of the ball. The teams who have the ability to do this are the Jets, Ravens, and Steelers....the very teams that will be there in the post season. Pats may still score 20-24 points against these teams, which might be good enough, except...

2) DB's are the worst in the league. Yes the team needs a pass rush, but I can't count how many times the corners were playing 18 yards off a receiver on 3rd and long. Any, and I mean any, decent QB-WR combo is going to run 15 yards downfield, turn on a dime and have a 1st down completion waiting for them. The team's DB's have no confidence that they can make a play one on one, and therefore are giving up way too much space. This will not get better as the season goes on.

The blame for all this is squarely on Belichick. He needs to bring in a top player, not a guy off the scrap heap, for both pass rushing and a corner position. Really, the only guy on that D any team needs to pay attention to is Wilfork. Maybe Andre Carter once in awhile on a rush. Everybody else, even some guys I had big expectations for, are useless. Haynesworth, Ellis, McCourty, Nikovich, Spikes, Guyton, Mayo. You name it, these players are doing nothing.

As far as the O goes, get rid of Ochocinco who's officially useless too. They might as well take a chance with Moss, if for no other reason than to draw coverage deep and free up the short to intermediate pass. Forget about this Price kid. If he was any good, they would have used him by now. I don't know of any other legitimate deep ball threats that are there for the taking at this point in the season, but the only way this team can win is to score 40 points a game. That's not going to happen vs good defenses if they can't stretch the field.

Why bother paying Haynesworth when he plays about 2 plays a game? Ocho should be gonzo, he sucks. And I agree on Moss, take a chance, Maybe even TO:D
