The 2011 New England Patriots

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Secondary is still the problem here. If they were decent at the very least you'd see a coverage sack once in awhile. Receivers aren't being touched at the line and McCourty is playing 10 yards behind his guy. That's the Delthea O'Neil method and it doesn't work. Once again he was torched in this game. Does Wilfork lead the team in INT's now?

I think it's a problem, not the problem. That being said, maybe we're splitting hairs in that both areas are so poor it's hard to say which is worse.

I do agree that this is ultimately on Belichick. Safeties not named Chung have been terrible. No problem turfing Meriweather but why Sanders also? Its a passing league after all. Also would it kill the defense to blitz once in awhile? Since the corners can't cover anyway, how about sending them after the QB?

All these years of trading picks or using them for TE's and OT's are coming home to roost. I don't care how much they have to give up to trade up. The team absolutely needs to draft the top corner or pass rusher coming out of school next year. There is no position on the offense that requires anything more than a back end of the draft pick.

Agree with most of this except they seem to have hit on Hernandez/Gronkowski/Vollmer/Solder. The issues I have with Belichick is never taking a proven pass rusher and the fact he's now missed on many, many players in the secondary. If he hadn't done that, we might be further along in this process of rebuilding the defense.

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Looks like Haynesworth and Wright will be playing Sunday. Same goes for Hernandez.

Mike Reiss notes that inactives probably include Woodhead, Edelman, Vollmer, and of course Mayo.

Does anyone else think this "return to the Ground And Pound" storyline coming out of NY is misdirection? I think they'll throw it as much Sunday, if not more, than they have so far this season. Don't see why they'd want to attack NE mostly on the ground when they could do it through the air.

I'm not suggesting the Pats' braintrust is preparing for this game by reading the NY Daily News. But it would be one of those Rex Ryan specials: "See, we told 'em we were gonna run it, so they'd prepare for the run, and then we could throw it! Haha! We're back!"

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Why the F can't Brady throw the ball away, stand there and take a sack every freakin time

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

i hate the fact that the patsies are going to win the super bowl!!! :(

Said this a few times today. Was getting pretty frustrated, but I don't care how the Jets looked coming in--that was a big win for psychological reasons alone. Take care of business along the way and there's no reason why the Pats shouldn't win this division again. Most encouraging thing I saw from the defense today was on 3rd down. Didn't make any big plays, but really didn't give up any huge plays either. I'll take it.

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Good win against a good team, and I actually thought the Jets played pretty well for the most part. Brady looked uncomfortable most of the game but they still put up 30. And that drive at the end of the game hasn't been seen around here since the Corey Dillon days. Loved it!

Looks like Vollmer might be ready to get back in there, as they released Thomas Welch and re-signed Dan Gronkowski to be the third TE. I assume Woodhead and Edelman might also be ready to go on Sunday. Dallas is coming off a bye and is as healthy as it's been all year.

Looks like the New Jersey Jets are cheating...

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Hmmm, verrrrrrry interesting.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Now it's official: The New York Jets' locker room is fractured.

Veteran guard Brandon Moore, taking offense to Santonio Holmes' latest criticism of the offensive line, fired back at the wide receiver Friday, telling ESPNNewYork.com that Holmes is creating a rift by throwing teammates under the bus.

"He's obviously got the green light to evaluate every position on the team," Moore said. "I just didn't think captaincy entailed that. I've never seen a captain do that. That's not leading. That's not being a leader. It actually fragments the locker room. It's not productive."

Moore, the longest-tenured player on the Jets' sputtering offense, is regarded as one of the quiet leaders on the team. That he decided to speak out against Holmes is an indication of the current state of team chemistry.

"Obviously, it's OK to do that," said Moore, alluding to Rex Ryan's freedom-of-speech policy. "This organization let's you say whatever you want. There's no muzzle. But as a professional, there are some things you do muzzle. I've muzzled my mouth numerous times. It's called being a pro. It's called taking care of your brothers in the locker room, the guys who fight for each other."

Mike Wright appears to be done for the season with his 2nd concussion of the season

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

I'm not sure if I'm pleasantly surprised that we won't be subjected to Spygate Two after the Jest got caught being hypocrites or annoyed that Hatriot Nation are ignores crap that doesn't smear the Pats. The lesson is, they all suck. I guess.

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

You don't win alot of games turning the ball over on consecutive possesions

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Half dozen turns over or is it 5? excellent job by the Pats today. Smoke and mirrors

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

He always seems to have these great 2 minute offense series. Why can't they play like that for the whole game???

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

The defense won that game today. To me, that's what's most encouraging. Looked like Haynesworth was a factor and they actually got some pressure.

#1 seed in the AFC right now and I like the fact they have a bye before going to Pittsburgh.

me too because they looked awful apart from the game winning drive. I know the pats won't put up crooked numbers every week but they have to protect the football. But hey 5-1.

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

the cowboys have a good defense. probably one of the best the patsies will play.
