The 2011 New England Patriots

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Commentary thus far has pretty much summed up my thoughts. Brady is no longer playing at a championship level. Could be age, could be the defenses are getting better. I don't know. However, one can't hide the fact that he's played poorly in the playoffs going back to 2005. His best game against a good team over that stretch was the loss to the Colts in the AFC championship. Denver this year and I think Jax in 07 weren't good teams. He played poorly in both the AFC title wins vs the Charges in 07 and Baltimore this year. He played alright but not nearly good enough in both Super Bowls. Unfortunately he's squandered his chance at being an all time legend. Joe Montana he ain't. I don't get why he has to loft those jump balls deep downfield where a slow lumbering linebacker has a chance to get under the ball for a pick. He did the same thing vs the Ravens for another pick. They were at midfield and a clock chewing TD drive ices the game. Not to mention the rookie mistake safety that he took

Giants were ultimately right. He does have happy feet back there now as the line did a good job protecting him but he got nervous around pressure, far more than Eli Gump did. Gump didn't play a superb game but he didn't make any mistakes and Brady and the Pats blinked first. Too bad, as this team could have easily been 5-0 in Super Bowls.

I agree and disagree. Brady, barring the safety, was excellent until he got his shoulder crushed in the third quarter. After that, he was hearing footsteps, and was rattled, and his passing was hurried and off target. I thought they had found their groove with those two scoring drives bookending the halftime, but hurting his shoulder screwed that up. While Welker and Branch both had shots at catchable balls, and maybe should have made those plays, there is no doubt that both were thrown behind them.

As far as the safety and the int, those both were a result of Brady's ego thinking he can make the play when the better option would be to just play it safe. it's what got him yelled at by his offensive coordinator a few weeks ago. He needs to get out of that mindset that he's infallible, and start making the smart choices with the ball, like he did when he was younger, not try to force things, not try to do too much all by himself.

Difference was the Giants made the plays they had to make, and the Pats didn't. I think the playcalling could have been better, more Woodhead out of the backfield, screen passes, etc. and debatable whether Gronk should have been dressed. Probably should have dressed Faulk, as Ridley never saw a minute of action, and Faulk out of the backfield could have bben another weapon available.

Defense was ok, but just couldn't make the big play when they needed to.

I heard Colin Cowherd say schedules are out in that we know who teams are playing just not dates yet, he says the Pats have a good schedule for a repeat trip to Super Bowl???

It's Colin Cowherd...he'll say anything to get people to listen to him.

Patriots opponents for next season:

Home: Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers

Away: Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks

They do get San Fran, Denver, Houston and Indy at home. The only road games that should be a challenge are @Baltimore and @Seattle. This schedule has another 13-3 season written all over it. Of course, that just gets them to the playoffs as the #1 seed...they still have to win two playoff games.

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Obvious thought is obvious...

...but this team needs to significantly improve the secondary to be a true contender, in my opinion. Improving pass coverage will help the pass rush as well.

A deep threat on Offense would be nice but it isn't a glaring hole. Face it, if Gronk is healthy last week, the entire offensive gameplan changes and who knows what happens.

That looks like a pretty good schedule to me? Ravens, San Fran and Houston look like tough games, Jets might be.

No matter, they still need, Defensive end, Dbacks, and a wide receiver with some height and some speed

The schedule release is tonight. The Patriots' official Twitter account is reporting they're on the road Week 1, at home Week 17, and they play four primetime games.

One note -- the Rams game is in London (England, not Ontario).

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Rover won't have Matt Light to kick around anymore: ;)
Earlier in the day, New England Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light tried to play off a question about his potential retirement.

Now there are reports from ProFootballTalk and NFL.com that Light will indeed hang it up after 11 NFL seasons that includes being with the Patriots for all the Bill Belichick-era Super Bowls.

Light will likely be replaced by Nate Solder, whom New England drafted last year.
Drafting Seymour/Light 1/2 in the 2001 Draft was huge. Looking back, that's really all they got out of that draft, so they needed to hit on those two guys and they did.
