The 2011 New England Patriots

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

If the Pats get the ball first, they need a drive like the opening one against Denver. Getting ahead early has HUGE benefits.

Really? :p

Hahaha wow that came out terribly.

If they go up 7-0 they win the game. Easily, in my opinion.

Must be influenced by all the smack talk coming out of their locker room. Plus I missed the memo where Eli Gump became Joe Montana. My pessimism is starting to melt away and I'm looking forward to this game. I'm really surprised a good coach like Coughlin hasn't told his guys to S T F U by now.

As a Giants fan, I wish that this would happen. I don't think Bill puts much stake in the bulletin board material thing, but I do believe that the rest of the guys do. Plus, the Giants are coming off like idiots. This will be a fun game to watch in New England.

I think it's going to be a long evening in NE. The Giants can run the ball effectively and pass the ball effectively. NE can probably stop one, but the defense has not shown me it can stop both. Maybe I'll be surprised and TB12 gets time and space to pick the Giant defense apart and maybe Law Firm finds holes for decent yardage.

But that's too many ifs. And it pains me to think NYG by 3.5

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

First you move to New Hampshire and now you're rooting for the Giants??? Yikes, what's happened to you?

Regarding the Pats, I'm starting to feel better about this game as we get closer to it. Giants are turning into the Jets - celebrating a victory before the game is even played. Back in 2007, the Giants wanted that game more and you could tell by the way they played (Strahan in particular). I think the Pats by virtue of 1) people questioning their team still, and 2) all the mouthing off out of the Giants, will give them the extra motivation. No, the D couldn't stop a one legged field goal kicker from scoring, but what they need do is win the turnover battle. Given Eli Gump's habit of throwing to the wrong team (remember he had the last SB lost until idiot Samuel dropped a sure INT) I'm hoping the Pats can cash in.

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Gronkowski might practice on a limited basis today. I have no idea what to expect from him on Sunday, but needless to say they could really use him. I wonder, with Vollmer back, if they might resort to playing Solder at TE in their jumbo offense, like they were earlier in the year. They could run out of it or use it to help slow down the pass rush.

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Don't worry about Gronk, Bill will pull a rabbit out of his hat and his name is Ocho

I don't think they need to get too tricky on O at least to beat the Giants. With Gronk seemingly moving around okay, the Giants will have to double him as their LB's and secondary aren't that good. I doubt they wait until they start getting burned by him. So I agree the issue is stopping the pass and they ought to line Solder up in the backfield as a full back to give Brady more time to pick the D apart.

I doubt it but that would be a pleasant surprise, if Brady and Ochocinco could connect at all.

My guess is Ocho draws off 1 defender, maybe a few caught passes but hey every 1st down is going to be needed for a W.

The over/under on Ocho's # of catches is .5

If I were a betting man, I'd take the over.

The Giants can't shut down Gronk, Hernandez, and Welker, right?

If they take Gronk seriously, someone else will have a chance. If they don't . . . I bet Gronk is healthy enough to make some plays.

I just hope they get a couple picks from Eli, while Eli's busy racking up yards.

The rumor is Tom doesn't trust ocho to be where he is supposed to be but the Giants secondary might be worse than the Pats so I expect Tom to be able to find some open receivers assuming he has the time. The Giants front four is what worries me.

hmmm we'll know tomorrow night. Hopefully Vollmer will be ragdolling one of the Giants front four despite a long layover from injuries. One would think Solder who played for Vollmer will be back with Brady as a last line of defense to buy Brady an extra couple of seconds. Or maybe he can even be a 3rd TE - if the other 2 TE's are at 100%, that could ruin the Giants' day. To be honest, I have no idea what we will see tomorrow. I am going to be stressed out until the Pats win. :D

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

Well, looks like 85 will be active, anyway:
As if we didn’t know, even with all the festivities, this is a business. And we just got another reminder.

A mere 24 hours before the Super Bowl, the Patriots made their final transaction in a year full of them. In one of the coldest moves ever, the Patriots released WR Tiquan Underwood and promoted DE Alex Silvestro.

This all but guarantees that WR Chad Ochocinco will be active. And while you have to feel for Underwood, who must be devastated, he will almost certainly get a ring if they win the Super Bowl.

I am told there were not disciplinary reasons for the move. Underwood did not do anything wrong, and I expect him to be back next year. But perhaps they wanted another defensive linemen on the field.

Re: The 2011 New England Patriots

wait, why did they have to release him?

if they moved up the DL from practice squad to active roster, they'd have to release someone from active roster. usually they would resign the guy to practice squad.... but they isn't needed now that the final game is now.

rules were put in place to 'protect' players, give them a chance to be available for other jobs on different teams and keep teams from stashing players where they couldn't get an opportunity to play.
